Which companies sponsor visas for photonics engineers in New Jersey?
New Jersey employers with documented H-1B visa sponsorship history in photonics and related optical engineering include II-VI Incorporated, Coherent Corp, Lockheed Martin, Nokia Bell Labs in Murray Hill, and JDSU. Defense contractors along the Route 1 corridor and semiconductor firms in the Princeton area also file sponsorship petitions regularly. Checking DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data confirms which employers have active filing histories for photonics-specific roles.
Which visa types are most common for photonics engineer roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the primary visa category for photonics engineers in New Jersey, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in physics, electrical engineering, or optical engineering. Some defense-sector positions may also support O-1A petitions for engineers with demonstrable extraordinary ability. Employers at STEM-designated facilities can also support OPT and STEM OPT extensions for recent F-1 graduates before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most photonics engineer sponsorship jobs?
Murray Hill and New Providence host Nokia Bell Labs, historically one of the densest concentrations of photonics research in the state. Princeton and the surrounding Mercer County corridor attract optical and semiconductor engineering roles tied to both corporate R&D and defense contractors. Moorestown supports photonics work through Lockheed Martin's radar and sensing programs. Edison and Parsippany also see periodic openings from telecommunications equipment manufacturers with sponsorship track records.
How to find photonics engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters photonics engineer listings specifically to New Jersey and surfaces employers with verified H-1B sponsorship histories, so you can focus on companies that have already navigated the process for similar roles. Search by job title and state to see active openings from defense contractors, telecom equipment firms, and semiconductor manufacturers across the Princeton and Murray Hill corridors. This approach saves time compared to manually cross-referencing job postings against DOL disclosure records.
Are there state-specific or role-specific considerations for photonics engineers seeking sponsorship in New Jersey?
Several New Jersey photonics roles intersect with defense and aerospace work, which can introduce security clearance requirements that complicate sponsorship for non-U.S. persons. Employers subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations may have restrictions on foreign national access to certain technologies or lab environments. Candidates should confirm clearance eligibility and export control policies with each employer before advancing. Prevailing wage levels for photonics engineers in the Trenton and Newark metro areas can be verified through the OFLC Wage Search tool.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored photonics engineer jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
