We run lean, and move fast; we’re looking for engineers who are hungry for ownership and responsibility, enjoy moving quickly, care deeply about understanding the mission requirements of our customers, and are excited to deliver real-world impact.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Mentor engineers across teams and influence technical strategy beyond your immediate group.
- Own and evolve backend services powering customer‑facing APIs, usage/billing, alerting, and data observability.
- Lead team and cross‑team initiatives end‑to‑end: discovery, architecture, implementation, rollout, and post‑launch learning.
- Architect event‑driven and streaming workflows (e.g., Kafka) with strong data contracts and schema evolution.
- Drive operational excellence: SLOs, runbooks, on‑call, incident reviews, and capacity plans for high‑QPS systems.
- Partner with product, data engineering/science, and security to translate customer requirements into durable systems.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
We’re Looking For Candidates Who Have
- Expert backend engineering experience building cloud‑hosted services and data pipelines on AWS or GCP (bonus: both).
- Deep proficiency with APIs, streaming systems, and distributed systems (e.g., microservices on Kubernetes).
- Demonstrated ownership of systems operating at scale (hundreds to thousands of RPS; TB–PB data volumes).
- High judgment on reliability, security, and cost, with a track record of measurable improvements.
- Ability to lead without authority—mentoring, design reviews, and cross‑org influence.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Nice To Have Experience
- Blockchain domain knowledge (protocol fundamentals; smart contracts/Solidity).
- Databricks experience (Spark, Delta Lake, Delta Live Tables) or PySpark at scale.
- Multi‑tenant, usage tracking, and billing systems experience.

Which crypto & web3 companies in New York sponsor visas?
ConsenSys, Chainalysis, Gemini, Coinbase, and BlockFi are among the established crypto companies in New York with documented visa sponsorship history. Many traditional finance firms like JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs also sponsor visas for blockchain-focused roles within their crypto divisions. Smaller DeFi startups in Brooklyn and Manhattan increasingly sponsor H-1B visas for specialized technical talent.
What visa types do crypto & web3 companies in New York typically sponsor?
H-1B visas are most common for software engineers, blockchain developers, and quantitative analysts in New York's crypto sector. O-1 visas are frequently used for senior blockchain architects and DeFi protocol designers with specialized expertise. Some companies also sponsor L-1 visas for transferring international talent from their overseas offices, particularly for compliance and regulatory roles.
How to find crypto & web3 visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international talent with visa-sponsoring crypto and web3 companies across New York. The platform filters opportunities by sponsorship status and visa type, focusing on roles at established firms in Manhattan's Financial District and emerging blockchain startups in Brooklyn. Many positions require specific blockchain development skills or DeFi experience.
Which New York cities have the most crypto & web3 sponsorship opportunities?
Manhattan leads with the highest concentration of crypto companies offering visa sponsorship, particularly in the Financial District and Midtown areas. Brooklyn has emerged as a secondary hub with blockchain startups and incubators near Brooklyn Navy Yard and DUMBO. Albany and Buffalo have limited crypto presence, with most opportunities concentrated in the NYC metropolitan area.
Are there prevailing wage considerations for crypto jobs in New York?
New York's Department of Labor publishes prevailing wage data for software engineering and financial analyst roles commonly found in crypto companies. Manhattan-based positions typically command higher prevailing wages than other New York regions. Companies must demonstrate that sponsored roles meet or exceed these wage requirements, with blockchain-specific expertise often justifying premium compensation levels.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored crypto & web3 jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
