About Amigo
Amigo partners with healthcare organizations to deploy robust AI infrastructure that directly serves patients and providers. Our agents handle clinical workflows and patient engagement across the entire journey: pre-visit intake, care navigation, post-visit care plans, patient monitoring, and more.
We're fresh off our Series A backed by Tier 1 investors like Madrona, General Catalyst, and Optum Ventures. Our work is validated with leading academic medical institutions. Our agents have reached 3M+ patient encounters and are on track to 10x this year.
About this role
As a Staff Application Engineer at Amigo, you'll build the applications that clinical teams, researchers, and customers use every day: real-time oversight of live agent conversations, natural language research over healthcare data, and tools for designing agent behavior without code. You'll own features end to end, from the database to the UI, in systems that handle sensitive patient data. The bar for correctness and reliability is high.
What you might work on
- Building real-time interfaces for clinical oversight of live agent conversations
- Owning a feature end to end, from schema to API to UI
- Designing tools that let non-engineers shape agent behavior safely
- Making healthcare data explorable through natural language
- Hardening the reliability and performance of applications clinicians depend on
- Working with designers, clinicians, and customers to get the details right
You may be a fit if
- You've shipped production full-stack features end to end and owned the outcome
- You're strong across the stack, from data modeling and APIs to modern front-end work
- You sweat correctness and reliability, especially where sensitive data is involved
- You have good product instincts and care how things feel to use
- You're low ego, direct, and hold yourself to a high bar
- You can work on site in San Francisco
Nice to have
- Experience in a regulated or high-reliability domain (healthcare, finance, legal)
- Experience with real-time or streaming interfaces
- Background with design systems or complex UI state
- Experience with production AI or ML products
Benefits (available to Full-Time Employees)
Health & Wellness
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
- Daily catered lunch and dinner
- Mental health support and wellness coaching
- Flexible wellness stipend for fitness, therapy, or personal growth
Growth & Development
- Annual learning budget for courses, books, or conferences
- Conference attendance budget for professional development
- Annual team offsite
- Academic collaboration opportunities
- Unlimited PTO
Our Core Values
- Patients Win, We Win
If patients aren't getting better care, we haven't earned the right to scale. Every internal decision gets pressure-tested: does this make patients' lives better? If we can't draw the line, we question why we're doing it.
-
High Standards, High Care
We hold a high bar for the team because patients are counting on us to get this right. But high standards only work with genuine investment in each other. You can take risks, admit mistakes, and challenge ideas—not despite our standards, but because of them.
-
Thoughtful Urgency
We move fast by default, but speed without judgment is recklessness. The discipline is knowing which decisions are reversible vs. not. In healthcare AI, the companies that win will be fast everywhere they can be and careful everywhere they must be. We build the muscle to do both.
-
Intensely Measured
We instrument patient outcomes, provider ROI, system performance, and clinical accuracy. But data without action is surveillance. Every metric should have an owner, a threshold, and a response plan. If we're measuring something but never acting on it, we stop measuring it.
Who Builds With Us
- Low ego: Politics and territory don't interest you. The best ideas win, regardless of who has them.
- Direct: You say the hard thing, challenge ideas openly, and commit fully once decided.
- High agency: You thrive on trust rather than instruction. When you see something is broken, you fix it. You don’t file tickets and wait for someone else.
- Bar of excellence: You hold yourself to a bar most people wouldn't, and you want teammates who do the same.
- Skeptical: You push back on rules that don’t make sense and question assumptions that haven’t earned their place.
Compensation Range: $260K - $300K

Which companies sponsor visas for staff software developers in New York?
Large employers with significant New York engineering offices, including Google, Amazon, Meta, Bloomberg, Goldman Sachs, and Spotify, regularly sponsor H-1B visas for staff-level software developers. Mid-size fintech and enterprise software companies such as Datadog, MongoDB, and Etsy also have established sponsorship programs. DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data shows consistent filings from these employers for senior software engineering roles in the New York metro area.
Which visa types are most common for staff software developer roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common work visa for staff software developers in New York, as the role typically satisfies the specialty occupation requirement through its degree requirements in computer science or a closely related field. Some candidates qualify for the O-1A based on extraordinary ability, particularly those with strong open-source contributions, publications, or industry recognition. Canadians and Mexicans may also pursue the TN visa under the NAFTA successor agreement for computer systems analyst roles.
Which cities in New York have the most staff software developer sponsorship jobs?
The vast majority of staff software developer sponsorship opportunities in New York are concentrated in Manhattan, particularly in Midtown and the Flatiron District, which house major tech offices and financial technology companies. Brooklyn's DUMBO and Industry City neighborhoods host a growing cluster of mid-size tech employers. Outside New York City, Buffalo and Albany have a smaller but emerging presence through university-affiliated research institutions and state government technology initiatives.
How to find staff software developer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters staff software developer roles in New York by employers with a verified history of visa sponsorship. Rather than manually reviewing job postings and employer histories, you can browse and apply through Migrate Mate to surface roles where sponsorship is genuinely on the table. Targeting employers with active LCA filings in the New York metro area significantly improves the efficiency of your search.
Are there state-specific considerations for staff software developer sponsorship in New York?
New York's prevailing wage determinations for staff software developer roles are among the highest in the country, reflecting the cost of labor in the metro area. Employers sponsoring H-1B petitions must certify through a Labor Condition Application that the offered wage meets or exceeds the applicable prevailing wage for the role and location. New York also has a dense concentration of H-1B dependent employers, particularly in consulting and staffing, where additional attestation requirements apply to sponsorship filings.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored staff software developer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
