Which companies sponsor visas for tax accountants in New York?
The Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, and Ernst & Young, are among the most active H-1B sponsors for tax accountants in New York and have a documented history of filing petitions for international hires. Mid-size regional firms such as Grant Thornton and BDO also sponsor, as do large financial institutions and multinational corporations with in-house tax departments based in Manhattan.
Which visa types are most common for tax accountant roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for tax accountants in New York, as the role generally qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Candidates with advanced credentials such as a CPA or a master's degree in taxation may also be considered for O-1A visas in limited circumstances. Australians may pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and is processed separately from the H-1B cap.
Which cities in New York have the most tax accountant sponsorship jobs?
New York City, specifically Manhattan, accounts for the vast majority of tax accountant visa sponsorship activity in the state, driven by its concentration of Big Four offices, investment banks, hedge funds, and multinational corporate headquarters. White Plains and Buffalo host smaller but active accounting markets tied to regional firms and corporate finance teams. Albany sees demand from government-adjacent and nonprofit organizations, though sponsorship activity there is more limited.
How to find tax accountant visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles that offer visa sponsorship, including tax accountant positions in New York. Rather than sorting through general job postings where sponsorship status is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces employers actively willing to sponsor, letting you focus your applications on firms like the Big Four and large financial services companies that have an established pattern of hiring international tax professionals in the New York market.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for tax accountants seeking visa sponsorship?
New York's Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements apply to H-1B petitions filed for roles in the state, and employers must certify that the offered compensation meets the prevailing wage for the specific tax accountant role and location. New York City's high cost of living also means prevailing wages are generally set at higher levels than other parts of the state. CPA licensure in New York requires 150 credit hours of education, which international candidates should factor into long-term career planning alongside their visa timeline.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax accountant jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
