Which companies sponsor visas for tax accountants in Montana?
Regional accounting firms such as Eide Bailly and JCCS CPAs, along with larger employers like Billings Clinic, Montana Rail Link, and energy sector companies operating in eastern Montana, have historically filed for work visa sponsorship in accounting roles. National firms with Montana offices, including Wipfli and RubinBrown, are also worth targeting, as they have established immigration sponsorship infrastructure.
Which visa types are most common for tax accountant roles in Montana?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for tax accountants in Montana, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals under the USMCA, with accountants listed as an eligible profession. Australian nationals may qualify for the E-3 visa, which operates outside the H-1B lottery.
Which cities in Montana have the most tax accountant sponsorship jobs?
Billings is Montana's largest city and commercial hub, concentrating the most tax accountant opportunities due to its energy sector presence and regional healthcare employers. Missoula follows, supported by the University of Montana and a growing professional services sector. Great Falls and Bozeman also have active accounting markets, with Bozeman seeing increased demand as its tech and real estate sectors expand.
How to find tax accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Montana?
Migrate Mate filters tax accountant jobs in Montana specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving you from sorting through listings that won't support an international hire. Because Montana's accounting market is smaller than coastal states, sponsoring employers can be harder to identify without dedicated tools. Migrate Mate surfaces active openings from firms and organizations in Billings, Missoula, and beyond that have a demonstrated history of sponsoring accounting roles.
What state-specific factors should international tax accountants consider when targeting Montana jobs?
Montana has no general sales tax, which shapes the work of tax accountants in the state toward income, property, and corporate tax compliance rather than sales tax advisory. The CPA licensure pathway in Montana follows standard AICPA requirements, and international candidates should verify credential recognition with the Montana Board of Public Accountants. Employers in smaller markets may have less immigration sponsorship experience, so working with firms that already have legal counsel familiar with H-1B filings is worth confirming early.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax accountant jobs in Montana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
