Which companies sponsor visas for tax accountants in Virginia?
The Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, and EY, have significant Virginia presences and established H-1B visa sponsorship programs for tax accountants. Federal contractors such as Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, and ManTech also hire tax professionals in Northern Virginia. Regional firms like Dixon Hughes Goodman and Cherry Bekaert have sponsored candidates for specialized tax roles in Richmond and the broader mid-Atlantic region.
Which visa types are most common for tax accountant roles in Virginia?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for tax accountants in Virginia, given that the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field. Candidates with advanced credentials like a CPA or a master's in taxation may also be considered for O-1A visas in exceptional cases. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals under the USMCA for accountant roles.
Which cities in Virginia have the most tax accountant sponsorship jobs?
Northern Virginia, particularly Arlington, McLean, Tysons Corner, and Reston, accounts for the largest concentration of sponsored tax accountant positions, driven by the federal contracting and professional services sectors. Richmond is the second-strongest market, supported by financial institutions, healthcare organizations, and regional accounting firms. Norfolk and Virginia Beach see more limited sponsorship activity, primarily from maritime and logistics companies.
How to find tax accountant visa sponsorship jobs in Virginia?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers looking for visa sponsorship roles, including tax accountant positions in Virginia. You can filter by state and role to see employers with active sponsorship histories in the region. Focusing on Northern Virginia and Richmond will surface the highest volume of relevant opportunities across public accounting firms, federal contractors, and corporate finance teams.
Are there any Virginia-specific considerations for tax accountants seeking visa sponsorship?
Virginia's proximity to Washington, D.C. means many tax accountant roles involve federal tax compliance or government contractor accounting, which can require security clearance eligibility in addition to visa sponsorship. Employers in Northern Virginia are generally experienced with H-1B sponsorship processes. Virginia Commonwealth University and George Mason University also produce accounting graduates who enter the sponsorship pipeline, meaning entry-level competition from domestic candidates can be strong at regional firms.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored tax accountant jobs in Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
