Which companies sponsor visas for UX designers in New York?
Large tech and financial firms in New York with consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for UX designers include Google, IBM, Amazon, Citigroup, and JPMorgan Chase. Beyond those, New York-based design agencies, media companies like Condé Nast, and fintech startups such as Oscar Health have also filed LCAs for UX roles. Sponsorship patterns vary by year and hiring cycle, so checking recent Department of Labor disclosure data gives the most current picture.
Which visa types are most common for UX designer roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for UX designers in New York, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as interaction design, human-computer interaction, or a closely related discipline. The O-1A is an alternative for designers with demonstrated extraordinary ability, including major awards, published work, or significant industry recognition. Some applicants in the city also enter on L-1B intracompany transfers if relocating from a foreign office of a multinational employer.
How to find ux designer visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters UX designer job listings specifically to employers in New York that are open to visa sponsorship, saving you time screening out roles where sponsorship is not available. Because UX designer positions in New York span fintech, media, e-commerce, and enterprise software, using a focused search on Migrate Mate lets you target the industries and company sizes most likely to sponsor your specific visa category.
Which cities in New York have the most UX designer sponsorship jobs?
New York City, particularly Manhattan and Brooklyn, accounts for the overwhelming majority of UX designer visa sponsorship roles in the state. Manhattan concentrates finance, media, and enterprise tech employers, while Brooklyn's tech community in areas like DUMBO has grown steadily. Albany and Buffalo have smaller but active tech sectors tied to state government projects and university research, though sponsorship volume there is significantly lower than in NYC.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for UX designer visa sponsorship?
New York employers sponsoring H-1B workers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which in the New York City metro area are among the highest in the country given the cost of living and local wage benchmarks. UX designers with degrees from New York universities such as NYU, Parsons, or Columbia sometimes have an easier time connecting with local employers already familiar with those programs. The city's density of design agencies also means contract-to-hire arrangements are common, though visa sponsorship still requires a direct employer-employee relationship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ux designer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
