Which companies in Ohio sponsor visas for ML engineers?
Large Ohio-headquartered employers with a track record of H-1B visa sponsorship for ML roles include Nationwide Insurance, JPMorgan Chase's Columbus operations, Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, and Cleveland Clinic. Defense and aerospace contractors like Battelle and Leidos also sponsor ML engineers regularly. Consulting firms and cloud technology companies with Ohio delivery centers are additional sources of sponsorship.
Which visa types are most common for ML engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa for ML engineers in Ohio, as machine learning roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a related field. OPT and STEM OPT extensions are frequently used by candidates from Ohio State University, Carnegie Mellon's Pittsburgh campus, and other nearby research schools while transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
Which cities in Ohio have the most ML engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus accounts for the largest share of ML engineer sponsorship activity in Ohio, driven by its concentration of financial services firms, insurance companies, and a growing tech startup scene. Cincinnati follows, with strength in consumer goods, healthcare, and logistics. Cleveland has notable demand through its healthcare institutions, including Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals, which invest heavily in applied machine learning.
How to find ml engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?

You can narrow results by city and role type to focus on Columbus, Cincinnati, or Cleveland employers who have actively sponsored visas for machine learning positions.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for ML engineers pursuing visa sponsorship?
Ohio's lower cost of living compared to coastal tech hubs means prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B Labor Condition Application are generally set at Midwest market rates, which can make sponsorship more accessible for mid-sized Ohio employers. The state also benefits from strong university research partnerships, particularly with Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve, which create direct pipelines from academic ML research into sponsored industry roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ml engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
