Which companies sponsor visas for data scientists in Oregon?
Intel is one of the most consistent H-1B sponsors for data scientists in Oregon, particularly at its large Hillsboro campus. Nike, Providence Health, and Cambia Health Solutions also appear regularly in Department of Labor LCA filings for data science roles. Oregon Health and Science University sponsors data scientists through both H-1B and J-1 pathways. Smaller Portland-based tech firms occasionally sponsor as well, though at lower volumes.
Which visa types are most common for data scientist roles in Oregon?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for data scientists in Oregon, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field like statistics, computer science, or applied mathematics. Some academic and research positions at institutions like Oregon State University or OHSU use J-1 visas. Candidates with extraordinary ability in data science may also pursue O-1A petitions.
Which cities in Oregon have the most data scientist sponsorship jobs?
Portland and the surrounding metro area, including Hillsboro and Beaverton, account for the large majority of data scientist sponsorship activity in Oregon. Intel's semiconductor campus in Hillsboro alone drives significant volume. Eugene has a smaller but present market, partly linked to the University of Oregon's research programs. Corvallis, home to Oregon State University, also generates some sponsorship activity through research and biotech roles.
How to find data scientist visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, and you can filter directly for data scientist roles in Oregon. This saves time compared to manually screening general job postings where sponsorship status is often unclear. Migrate Mate also consolidates employer sponsorship history, helping you prioritize companies with a track record of filing H-1B petitions for data science positions in the Oregon market.
Are there state-specific factors that affect data scientist sponsorship hiring in Oregon?
Oregon's concentration of semiconductor manufacturing, health systems, and athletic apparel companies creates demand for data scientists with domain expertise in supply chain analytics, clinical data, and consumer behavior. The Department of Labor prevailing wage determinations for data scientist roles in the Portland metropolitan area are set at levels that reflect the region's competitive tech market, which employers must meet when filing Labor Condition Applications. Oregon also has no state income tax on wages, which some candidates factor into employer negotiations.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data scientist jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
