Tips for Finding H-2A Sponsorship Jobs in Pennsylvania
Target mushroom-producing counties first
Chester County is the mushroom capital of the U.S. and one of the heaviest concentrations of H-2A filings in Pennsylvania. Search specifically for mushroom farm and harvesting roles in that region before broadening your search elsewhere in the state.
Understand Pennsylvania's dual-season demand
Pennsylvania H-2A employers hire in two distinct waves: spring planting and summer crop work, then fall harvest and Christmas tree operations. Timing your application to align with these cycles significantly improves your chances of finding active job listings.
Look beyond the big cities
Most H-2A sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania are in rural counties like Adams, Lebanon, York, and Lancaster, not in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. Focusing your search on these agricultural regions will surface far more relevant H-2A opportunities than metro-area job boards.
Check the DOL job order database directly
Every H-2A position must be listed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry before foreign workers can be petitioned. Searching the federal job order clearinghouse lets you see active certified positions in Pennsylvania before they're widely advertised elsewhere.
Use Migrate Mate to filter by visa type and state
When browsing H-2A roles, Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically by visa sponsorship type and Pennsylvania location, cutting through listings that don't match your situation. It saves significant time compared to scanning general job boards that don't surface sponsorship details.
Ask about housing and transportation upfront
Pennsylvania H-2A employers are legally required to provide free housing and inbound transportation reimbursement. Confirm these details during outreach, as the specific housing location relative to the worksite can significantly affect your day-to-day experience on the ground.

Which industries in Pennsylvania sponsor the most H-2A visas?
Agriculture dominates H-2A visa sponsorship in Pennsylvania. The largest volume of filings comes from mushroom production in Chester County, apple and peach orchards in Adams County, vegetable and field crop farms across Lancaster and York counties, and Christmas tree operations in the central and western parts of the state. Nursery and greenhouse work also generates consistent H-2A demand throughout the growing season.
Which cities or counties in Pennsylvania have the most H-2A sponsorship jobs?
H-2A jobs in Pennsylvania are concentrated in rural counties rather than major cities. Chester County leads due to its mushroom industry, followed by Adams, Lancaster, York, and Lebanon counties for orchard and field crop work. Berks and Cumberland counties also see steady filings. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have minimal H-2A activity since the visa is specific to agricultural and seasonal farm labor.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-2A sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Qualifying roles are limited to temporary or seasonal agricultural work. In Pennsylvania, this commonly includes mushroom harvesters and packers, orchard workers, crop planters and pickers, greenhouse laborers, Christmas tree cutters and planters, and general farm hands. The position must be tied to a defined agricultural season with a clear start and end date to meet H-2A eligibility requirements.
How do I find H-2A sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Start with the federal H-2A job order clearinghouse, which lists all DOL-certified positions open to foreign workers. Migrate Mate also aggregates H-2A sponsorship listings and lets you filter by state, so you can view active Pennsylvania postings specifically. Because most employers are small farms without a strong online presence, checking county-level farm bureaus and agricultural associations can uncover additional openings.
Are there any Pennsylvania-specific considerations I should know about for H-2A sponsorship?
Pennsylvania requires H-2A employers to coordinate with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry as part of the job order clearance process before USCIS petitions are filed. The state's agricultural inspection and worker protection rules also apply alongside federal H-2A standards. Housing quality is an area of active enforcement in Pennsylvania, so reviewing your employer's housing disclosure before accepting a role is worthwhile.
