Tips for Finding H-2A Sponsorship Jobs in Wisconsin
Target dairy and vegetable farming counties early
Wisconsin's heaviest H-2A filing activity comes from dairy operations and vegetable farms in Marathon, Waupaca, and Clark counties. Positions there fill fast, so beginning your search in late winter gives you the best access to open roles.
Understand Wisconsin's seasonal hiring calendar
Most Wisconsin H-2A petitions cover planting through harvest, roughly April through November. Knowing this window helps you time applications correctly and avoid reaching out to employers after their Department of Labor certifications have already been submitted.
Look for employers who file every year
Many Wisconsin agricultural employers use H-2A sponsorship repeatedly across seasons. Returning employers have established processes and are more comfortable navigating the paperwork, making them significantly easier to work with than first-time sponsors.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified H-2A listings
Searching broadly for farm work yields mixed results. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for H-2A-sponsored positions in Wisconsin, saving time and surfacing employers who have already committed to the sponsorship process rather than those still undecided.
Prepare for housing and transportation logistics upfront
Wisconsin H-2A employers are required to provide free housing and inbound transportation. Confirming these arrangements before accepting an offer helps you evaluate whether the full compensation package meets your needs beyond the posted wages.
Check DOL disclosure data to verify employer history
The Department of Labor publishes certified H-2A employer filings publicly. Reviewing Wisconsin entries in the OFLC disclosure database lets you confirm an employer has sponsored workers before, which reduces uncertainty when evaluating opportunities.

Which industries in Wisconsin sponsor the most H-2A visas?
Dairy farming, vegetable production, and fruit growing are the leading H-2A visa sponsoring industries in Wisconsin. The state's strong dairy sector drives a disproportionate share of filings compared to other Midwest states. Tobacco and grain operations in western Wisconsin also contribute, though at lower volumes than dairy and fresh produce employers.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most H-2A sponsorship jobs?
H-2A activity in Wisconsin is rural by nature, but the highest concentrations of sponsored positions cluster around Wausau, Stevens Point, and the La Crosse region in the west. Employers in Marathon County and Clark County file regularly, and smaller operations scattered throughout the central sand plains also contribute meaningful sponsorship volume each season.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-2A sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Qualifying H-2A roles in Wisconsin are temporary or seasonal agricultural positions that U.S. workers are unavailable to fill. Common examples include dairy herd workers, crop harvesters, field irrigators, planting laborers, and greenhouse workers. The role must be tied directly to agricultural production, and the need must be seasonal rather than year-round and permanent.
How do I find H-2A sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search and lets you filter by visa type and state to surface verified H-2A positions in Wisconsin without sorting through unsponsored listings. You can also check the DOL job clearance system, which lists positions employers are required to post before certifying H-2A workers. Reaching out directly to large dairy cooperatives in central Wisconsin is another practical avenue.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for H-2A workers I should know about?
Wisconsin winters are severe, so most H-2A contracts here run April through November. Dairy work is sometimes structured differently from crop work because cows require year-round care, meaning some dairy H-2A roles include winter extensions that should be confirmed in your contract. Wisconsin also has active worker advocacy organizations that can help you understand your rights under state labor law during your placement.
