Role Overview
The Search and Discovery team is responsible for creating a world class search and discovery shopping experience for our customers, from "intent" based shopping to delighting the customer with serendipitous product discovery on every visit.
We are obsessed with optimizing the entire search customer journey, from query understanding and search relevance to personalized and category/mission aware search and recommendation experiences. We believe the experience of finding the right fresh groceries should be personal and different from shopping for a new laptop or your next pair of jeans. Search and Recommendations drive over 70% of product discovery for our millions of daily customers, so the scale and impact of our work is massive!
What You Will Do
- Own the Data Science function within a core pillar of Coupang's Search and Discovery org
- Analyze how customers interact with Coupang's search results to determine how to improve customer experience and business performance
- Lead experiment ideation, design, measurement, and interpretation
- Build datasets to increase the speed and accuracy with which the team analyzes data
- Understand the nuances of ML ranking models, LLMs, and more to determine how our core search product can be optimized
What we are looking for
- Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math or a closely related field
- 8 years of Data Scientist experience in customer-facing technology companies
- Expertise in experimentation and statistics
- Strong coding skills, including SQL and R/Python
- Experience with massive datasets, with an understanding of how to optimize data extraction
- Ability to communicate data concepts simply and succinctly to cross-functional team members, up to the C-suite
- Understanding of ML concepts, and how different model configurations affect model outcomes

Pay & Benefits
Our compensation reflects the cost of living across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.
The base pay for this position ranges from $174,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $290,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
