Power BI Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Power BI specialists and data visualization analysts can pursue H-1B visa sponsorship, as these roles typically require a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a related field. Large enterprises, consulting firms, and tech companies are the most likely sponsors, since Power BI expertise is often embedded in broader data analytics or business intelligence teams. The role's technical requirements make for solid H-1B petitions, though you'll usually need to show the position demands more than just tool proficiency. TN visas work for Canadian and Mexican citizens if the role maps to a qualifying category like computer systems analyst. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

Think this role is for you?
The Commercial Insights & Analytics (CIA) team turns complex commercial data into clear, trusted answers leaders can act on. We’re looking for a Senior BI Developer & Commercial Analyst to strengthen the way our team delivers insight every day—owning Power BI models, improving reporting reliability, modernizing legacy dashboards, and helping rebuild our commercial data foundation in Databricks.
If you like solving messy data problems, moving fast, and creating tools that make smarter decisions easier, this role has your name written somewhere in DAX.
Key Outcomes:
- Own and improve the CIA Power BI environment, including semantic models, DAX, Power Query, refreshes, gateways, security, and report distribution.
- Take over existing Excel-based reports and Power BI dashboards, ensuring business continuity while improving speed, accuracy, and usability.
- Rebuild and maintain the commercial data layer in Databricks in partnership with IT and Finance.
- Support the migration of legacy Qlik reporting into Power BI with input from Commercial subject matter experts.
- Build workflow automations for data intake, surveys, reporting packages, and recurring distribution needs.
- Use AI tools, including Claude, to accelerate reporting, analysis, documentation, and automation workflows.
- Deliver ad hoc analysis, forecasting support, market sizing, share insights, and customer-trend reporting for strategic commercial initiatives.
Do you have what it takes?
You’ll do well here if you’re naturally curious, highly accountable, and comfortable bringing structure to ambiguity. This role needs someone who can move quickly without sacrificing trust in the data, explain technical concepts in plain language, and partner well with IT, Finance, Commercial teams, and senior leaders.
You should be comfortable owning your work, asking smart questions, and prioritizing what matters most when timelines shift. A strong sense of urgency helps. A sense of humor doesn’t hurt either.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required; technical, data, business, or scientific majors highly preferred.
- Relevant certifications preferred, such as Microsoft PL-300, Databricks certification, or similar.
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive experience in business intelligence, commercial analytics, commercial operations, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining production BI solutions, preferably in Power BI.
- Strong Power BI skills, including semantic/tabular models, DAX, Power Query, scheduled refreshes, gateways, DirectQuery/Import connections, row-level security, subscriptions, and workspace management.
- Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience working in Databricks or similar modern data platforms.
- Experience translating legacy reporting, such as Qlik, into Power BI preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong Microsoft Office proficiency required.
- Working knowledge of Salesforce preferred.
- Experience with AI-enabled workflows, prompt design, or tools such as Claude preferred.
- Statistical modeling, machine learning, or claims data experience is a plus.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and tight timelines.
- In-office expectations and travel requirements to be confirmed based on business needs.
The annualized base salary range for this role is $99,100 to $155,000 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Power BI Jobs
Get the PL-300 certification before applying
The Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) validates your skills in DAX, data modeling, and Power Query. Microsoft-aligned employers often treat this credential as a baseline, and it helps differentiate you from candidates who list Power BI experience without formal validation.
Target consulting firms with Microsoft partnerships
Deloitte, Accenture, PwC, EY, and Cognizant maintain dedicated Microsoft practice areas and file significant numbers of H-1B petitions each year. These firms regularly hire Power BI specialists for client-facing analytics engagements across industries.
Build expertise beyond basic report creation
Companies sponsoring visas for Power BI roles typically need professionals who can handle row-level security, dataflows, and Power BI Premium capacity management. Experience with enterprise gateway configuration and large dataset optimization is more compelling than dashboard building alone.
Combine Power BI with Azure data services
Roles spanning Power BI and the broader Azure ecosystem - including Azure Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, and Azure SQL - command higher salaries and stronger sponsorship justification. Integrated cloud analytics architecture skills are harder to find domestically, which can strengthen the specialty occupation case.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do companies sponsor visas for Power BI specialists?
Yes, many enterprise organizations file H-1B visa petitions for roles requiring Power BI expertise, particularly in consulting, financial services, and healthcare. These positions typically fall under SOC code 15-1299 (Computer Occupations, All Other) or 15-2051 (Data Scientists). Large consulting firms and Fortune 500 companies with Microsoft-based analytics stacks are among the most active sponsors for Power BI professionals.
What Power BI certifications strengthen a visa sponsorship application?
The Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) is the most recognized credential for Power BI professionals. It validates proficiency in DAX, Power Query, and data modeling. Employers that rely on the Microsoft analytics ecosystem often treat this certification as a key differentiator when evaluating candidates for sponsored positions.
Is Power BI considered a STEM role for OPT purposes?
Power BI positions in data analytics and business intelligence can qualify for STEM OPT if your degree is in a STEM-designated field like data science, information systems, or computer science. This provides up to 36 months of work authorization - 12 months of standard OPT plus a 24-month STEM extension - giving employers time to evaluate your skills before committing to H-1B sponsorship.
What industries hire the most Power BI professionals on work visas?
Financial services, management consulting, and healthcare are among the top industries hiring Power BI specialists on sponsored visas. Large consulting firms like Deloitte, Accenture, and PwC frequently sponsor analysts who build enterprise dashboards and reporting pipelines using the Microsoft analytics stack.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Power BI jobs?
When a U.S. employer sponsors a foreign worker for a work visa, they are legally required to pay at least the "prevailing wage" — the average wage paid to workers in the same occupation, in the same geographic area, with similar experience. This is set by the Department of Labor to prevent employers from hiring foreign workers at below-market rates. The prevailing wage varies significantly by role, location, and experience level — for example, a power bi in Texas will have a different prevailing wage than the same role in a smaller state. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search.
