Entry Level Web Designer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level web designer job?
Build a portfolio of three to five projects that show layout thinking, typography, and responsiveness, even if those projects are personal or school work. Entry level employers care most about what you can produce, so case studies explaining your design decisions carry real weight. Familiarity with tools like Figma and a basic understanding of HTML and CSS give you a clear edge over candidates who have only theory.
Which companies hire entry level web designers?
Companies hiring entry level web designers right now include University of Utah, FareHarbor, and Perplexity, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. At this level, hiring comes from a wide range of employers, including marketing agencies, e-commerce brands, and in-house creative teams at mid-size companies that need design help but do not require years of experience to join.
Are there remote entry level web designer jobs?
Yes, though on-site and hybrid roles are also common at this stage. About 0% of entry level web designer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which means candidates outside major metro areas still have real options. Remote-friendly employers at this level often expect you to communicate design work clearly through async tools, so strong documentation habits help.
Are these new grad web designer jobs?
Yes, many of the openings here are new grad and junior roles that welcome candidates with little or no professional experience. A new grad-friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship or freelance work as qualifying background, and treats a solid portfolio as a substitute for a long resume. Recent graduates and career changers alike will find postings written with early-career candidates in mind.
Which industries hire the most entry level web designers?
Entry Level web designer roles concentrate in Education, Technology & Software, and Luxury Goods, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors tend to drive early-career hiring because they rely heavily on digital presence, content publishing, or product interfaces, which creates steady demand for designers who are newer to the field but bring current tools knowledge and fresh visual sensibilities.
