Entry Level Lead Designer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level lead designer job?
Entry level lead designer roles reward candidates who show initiative through a portfolio that demonstrates design thinking, not just polished finals. Employers at this level look for proficiency in tools like Figma or Adobe Creative Suite, a grasp of design principles, and evidence of collaborative work from internships, class projects, or freelance gigs. Tailoring your portfolio to the industry you are targeting gives you a clear edge.
Which companies hire entry level lead designers?
Companies hiring entry level lead designers right now include Circle, NIKE, and OpenAI, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of growing startups building out creative teams for the first time and established organizations looking for early-career designers who can grow into senior roles.
Are there remote entry level lead designer jobs?
Yes, though on-site and hybrid roles still make up a significant share of entry level openings. About 43% of entry level lead designer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so candidates who prefer flexible arrangements have real options alongside the traditional in-office postings available across the country.
Are these new grad lead designer jobs?
Yes, this page includes new grad, recent graduate, and junior lead designer roles. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience and accepts internship work, academic projects, or a strong personal portfolio in place of full-time professional history. If a listing does not require prior employment, it is built for candidates entering the field for the first time.
Which industries hire the most entry level lead designers?
Entry Level lead designer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Fintech, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026.
