Structural Designer / Project Engineer
[This position is based in San Diego, CA - Job Type: Full-time, In-Person]
Some firms promise growth. BWE is designed for it.
At BWE, we’re intentional about giving engineers real responsibility, real support, and the chance to shape both projects and the practice itself.
We’re a tight‑knit structural group within a medium-sized San Diego firm, working on a wide range of building types primarily throughout Southern California. Because of our size, every engineer has visibility, influence, and access to mentoring, not just a narrow slice of production work.
If you want a place where you can grow technically, lead when you’re ready, or simply become the best structural engineer you can be, without getting lost in the crowd, BWE may be the place you didn’t realize you were looking for.
What we'd like you to bring:
The confidence to tackle new tasks and build engineering skills that move projects forward, along with the humility to ask questions when you need to. A problem-solving attitude backed by good people skills, and enjoyment working on a wide range of projects, with differing materials, in various jurisdictions. We want someone who enjoys working as part of a team, and shares our values of individuality, creativity, and diversity to make us stronger as a group of individuals who can each provide their own perspective in contributing to our success.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering
· Current Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or PE license
· 1-6 years of experience performing building design
· A knack for problem-solving
· Excellent interpersonal skills, great teamwork
· Great communication skills across all forms of communication
· Ability to take initiative, gain confidence, and maintain an enthusiasm for structural engineering!
We are a 100% Employee-Owned company that offers competitive compensation, including generous bonuses, profit sharing and retirement contributions, and unlimited growth potential. We take pride in creating a positive and accommodating culture to foster the personal and professional growth of each of our team members.

Entry Level Project Designer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level project designer job?
Start by building a portfolio that shows real or concept projects from beginning to end, since most employers at this level care more about what you can demonstrate than how many years you have. Internship experience, academic projects, or freelance work all count. Look for postings that explicitly mention junior, associate, or new grad as those are written with your background in mind.
Which companies hire entry level project designers?
Companies hiring entry level project designers right now include Summerhill Landscapes, GHD, and Vesta, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of design studios, architecture firms, construction companies, and product-focused organizations that bring on junior talent to support senior designers and grow their own pipeline.
Are there remote entry level project designer jobs?
Yes, though on-site remains the more common setup at this stage. About 9% of entry level project designer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so opportunities do exist for candidates who need flexibility. Hybrid roles are often more common than fully remote at the junior level, since many employers prefer some in-person collaboration early in a designer's career.
Are these new grad project designer jobs?
Yes, the listings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior project designer roles. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience and treats internships, academic projects, or a portfolio as valid credentials in place of full-time work history. If a posting does not require a specific number of years and invites candidates to show their work, it is a strong fit for a new grad.
Which industries hire the most entry level project designers?
Entry Level project designer roles concentrate in Consumer Goods, Construction & Real Estate, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors tend to drive junior hiring because they run ongoing projects that require design support at every stage, creating consistent demand for candidates who are ready to contribute early and develop their skills on the job.
