Position Summary
This role works across Catalog Solutions and partner teams to identify where product data, supply chain signals, and classification outputs are not fit for business use, and to turn those gaps into practical improvements. It combines hands-on analysis with cross-functional problem solving, helping drive better data accessibility, usability, and readiness through existing tooling, analytics, and platform teams.
About the Team
Catalog Solutions sits between core item data and the business processes that depend on it across merchandising, supply chain, stores, compliance, and related areas. We work on the shared capabilities that make product-linked data, classifications, supply chain signals, and decision outputs more usable, consistent, and actionable across the company. The team focuses on how these inputs and outputs are shaped, improved, and applied in real workflows. We partner closely with business, product, engineering, and analytics teams to make sure the work is practical, scalable, and connected to how the business actually operates.
About the Role
As Senior Data Engineer / Data Strategist, you will lead how Catalog Solutions improves the quality and usability of data and outputs the business depends on, including item-related data, classifications, supply chain signals, and decision outputs. This role sits in a strategy-oriented team, but it is hands-on where it needs to be. You will work across stakeholders and partner teams to understand where the current state is falling short, define what needs to improve, and help move that work forward. Some of that will involve direct analysis and discovery. Some of it will involve rapid prototyping and building while working with engineering and platform teams to shape and scale enhancements. This is a strong fit for someone who is comfortable moving between data, business context, and execution — someone who can investigate issues, bring structure to ambiguity, and help turn findings into practical improvements.
What You’ll Do
- Identify where data, classifications, supply chain signals, or decision outputs are not meeting business needs.
- Work through source questions, logic questions, and usability gaps to clarify what should change.
- Use SQL and targeted analysis to investigate issues, validate assumptions, and support decision-making.
- Help translate findings into clear actions, priorities, and improvement plans.
- Prototype first, then partner with engineering, platform, and business teams to scale enhancements.
- Support efforts to make outputs more consistent, useful, and easier for downstream teams to rely on.
- Bring structure to cross-functional work where ownership, requirements, or next steps are not yet clear.
How Success Is Measured
- The business has greater confidence in the data and outputs it relies on.
- Important gaps are identified early and turned into practical improvements.
- Data and decision outputs become easier to use across real workflows.
- Cross-functional efforts move more smoothly because issues are better defined, prioritized, and fixed efficiently.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Supply Chain, Business Analytics, Economics, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years experience in data engineering, analytics, data strategy, or related roles.
- Strong SQL and comfort working directly with complex data to investigate issues and validate logic.
- Experience translating business questions into structured analysis and actionable recommendations.
- Experience working across business, product, engineering, and analytics teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in catalog, merchandising, supply chain, store operations, fulfillment, compliance, or similar operational domains.
- Experience improving data quality, consistency, or usability in a business-facing environment.
- Experience working in ambiguous spaces where requirements are not fully defined up front.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to connect detailed analysis to broader business needs.

Tips for Your AI Consultant / Strategist Job Search
Quantify your AI outcomes on your resume
Hiring managers for ai consultant / strategist roles want to see impact, not just tools. Replace vague bullets with measurable results: cost reductions from automation, accuracy improvements on deployed models, or time-to-value on AI pilots you led or advised on.
Build a public artifact showing your thinking
A case study, white paper, or documented AI roadmap you authored gives interviewers something concrete to reference. Consultants who can show how they diagnosed a problem and structured an AI solution stand out from candidates who only list certifications.
Target openings by engagement model, not just title
Job listings for this role split between project-based consulting, embedded strategy roles, and advisory retainer work. Read each description carefully so you apply to engagements that match how you actually work, whether that is short-cycle projects or long-term transformation programs.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists ai consultant / strategist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a client scenario for the interview stage
Most ai consultant / strategist interviews include a case or scenario exercise. Practice structuring a response that moves from business problem to data readiness assessment to recommended AI approach, because panels want to see consulting rigor on top of technical knowledge.
Negotiate scope and deliverables, not just compensation
When you reach the offer stage, clarify what success looks like in the first 90 days and which stakeholders you will report to. AI strategy roles often shift in scope after hire, so getting alignment on deliverables before you accept protects you and sets clear expectations.
AI Consultant / Strategist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most ai consultant / strategists?
The most active employers for ai consultant / strategists right now are Cloud Software, Google, and JPMorganChase, and the most openings are in California, New York, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is concentrated at management consulting firms, technology companies, and large enterprises building internal AI practices.
How many ai consultant / strategist jobs are remote?
About 45% of ai consultant / strategist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the strategy and advisory work translates well to distributed settings. Sub-specializations focused on client workshops, implementation oversight, or hands-on model deployment tend to require more in-person presence than pure strategy or roadmap advisory work.
How do you become an ai consultant / strategist?
Start by building a foundation in machine learning concepts, data analysis, and at least one cloud AI platform. Gain applied experience through internal AI projects, freelance advisory work, or consulting engagements at any scale. Develop the ability to communicate AI recommendations to non-technical stakeholders, earn one or two recognized AI or cloud certifications, and document your project outcomes in a portfolio or case study format employers can review.
Can you get hired as an ai consultant / strategist with little experience?
Yes, but you need to compensate with a strong demonstration of practical skills. Build a documented AI project from scratch, even a personal or open-source one, and write up the business case and methodology as if presenting to a client. Entry-level consulting roles in this space often value structured thinking and communication ability as much as years of hands-on work, so emphasize both in your application materials.
What does the ai consultant / strategist interview process look like?
The process typically includes an initial screening call focused on your background and engagement experience, followed by a technical or scenario round where you work through an AI strategy problem with a panel. Final rounds often involve a presentation to senior stakeholders or a case study you prepare in advance. Expect questions on how you handle client resistance, data readiness challenges, and how you measure the success of an AI initiative.
Where can I find and apply to ai consultant / strategist jobs?
You can find and apply to ai consultant / strategist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the available roles to find positions that match your specialization and experience level, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
