AI Engineer Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ai engineer in Colorado?
AI engineering in Colorado has no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most Colorado employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a closely related field, with a master's degree preferred for research-oriented roles at defense contractors and universities. Building a portfolio of deployed ML projects, contributing to open-source work, and earning vendor certifications from AWS or Google Cloud strengthens a candidacy considerably in the Colorado market.
Which companies hire ai engineers in Colorado?
Companies currently hiring ai engineers in Colorado include Google, BAE Systems USA, and Vantor, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Colorado's defense and aerospace sector, anchored along the Front Range, drives particularly consistent demand for AI engineers with experience in computer vision and autonomous systems.
Which Colorado cities have the most ai engineer jobs?
Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs account for the largest share of ai engineer openings in Colorado. Denver dominates due to its dense concentration of tech companies and corporate headquarters, Boulder draws AI talent through its university research ecosystem and startup culture, and Colorado Springs reflects steady demand from the defense and government contracting community surrounding the military installations there.
Are there remote ai engineer jobs in Colorado?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 79% of ai engineer openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and collaborative-tool-driven nature of the work. Roles focused on model development, data pipeline engineering, and research tend to offer the most flexibility, while positions requiring access to classified systems or specialized on-site hardware typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a ai engineer in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is targeting associate or junior ML engineer roles at Colorado's mid-size tech companies and defense contractors, which regularly hire candidates who can demonstrate project experience even without a professional title. Building applied projects using public datasets and hosting them on GitHub signals hands-on ability. University of Colorado and Colorado State graduates often find entry points through research assistant roles that convert to full-time positions. Lateral moves from data analyst, software developer, or business intelligence roles at Colorado employers are also common bridges into AI engineering.
Where can I find and apply to ai engineer jobs in Colorado?
