Most Illinois employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related discipline, along with a Certified Scrum Product Owner credential or a Certified Product Manager designation from the Association of International Product Professionals. Candidates who build a portfolio showing AI feature delivery, roadmap decisions, and measurable outcomes consistently advance faster than those relying on credentials alone.

Chicago drives the largest share because it is home to major corporate headquarters in finance, logistics, and enterprise software, while Naperville and Schaumburg draw openings from technology and insurance companies that have established large suburban campuses outside the city core.
