Applied AI Engineer Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a applied ai engineer in Ohio?
Most applied ai engineer roles in Ohio require a bachelor's degree in computer science, machine learning, data science, or a related field, with many employers preferring a master's degree for senior positions. There is no state-issued license for this role in Ohio. Candidates typically build a portfolio of deployed ML projects, earn cloud certifications from AWS or Azure, and apply directly to Ohio employers in finance, healthcare technology, or manufacturing where AI teams are most active.
How much do applied AI engineers make in Ohio?
Applied AI engineers in Ohio earn a median of about $114,090 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,790 for the lowest 10% to over $168,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire applied ai engineers in Ohio?
Employers hiring applied ai engineers in Ohio right now include Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Medpace, and Huntington Bank, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Ohio's mix of large financial institutions, healthcare systems, and defense contractors means applied ai engineers here often work on regulated-industry applications, which is a distinctive characteristic of the state's market.
Which Ohio cities have the most applied ai engineer jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland have the most applied ai engineer openings in Ohio. Columbus leads because of its dense cluster of financial services headquarters, insurance companies, and fast-growing tech employers, while Cincinnati draws demand from consumer goods and healthcare firms, and Cleveland's activity ties closely to its large health systems and manufacturing base.
Are there remote applied ai engineer jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 23% of applied ai engineer openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves code, models, and data rather than physical presence. The most remote-friendly tasks are model development, experimentation, and code review, while roles requiring on-site hardware, robotics integration, or secure government work tend to stay in-person.
How can I get hired as a applied ai engineer in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an associate AI or junior machine learning engineer role at a mid-size Ohio technology consultancy or at a large employer with a structured new-grad program, such as the technology development rotations offered by major Columbus-based financial institutions or Cincinnati's large consumer goods companies. Building a public portfolio of end-to-end projects on GitHub, earning an entry-level cloud certification, and targeting roles with titles like AI associate, data science analyst, or ML operations engineer are the most effective ways to get a first foothold without prior industry experience.
Where can I find and apply to applied ai engineer jobs in Ohio?
