Applied AI Engineer Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a applied ai engineer in Washington?
Applied ai engineer roles in Washington do not require a state-issued license, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical ability. Most Washington employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or electrical engineering, with a master's degree increasingly common at Seattle and Bellevue-area tech firms. Building a portfolio of deployed ML projects, contributing to open-source work, and completing cloud certifications on platforms like Azure or AWS are the strongest signals for Washington hiring teams.
How much do applied AI engineers make in Washington?
Applied AI engineers in Washington earn a median of about $166,540 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,810 for the lowest 10% to over $255,350 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire applied ai engineers in Washington?
Employers hiring applied ai engineers in Washington right now include Amazon, Amazon Web Services, and Apple, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's concentration of major cloud providers and enterprise software headquarters means demand is sustained year-round rather than tied to seasonal hiring cycles.
Which Washington cities have the most applied ai engineer jobs?
Seattle, Bellevue, and Redmond have the most applied ai engineer openings in Washington. Seattle and Bellevue drive the largest share because they house the headquarters and major engineering campuses of Microsoft, Amazon, and a dense cluster of AI-focused startups, while Redmond and Kirkland contribute significantly through Microsoft's research and product divisions and a growing number of cloud-adjacent firms.
Are there remote applied ai engineer jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 43% of applied ai engineer openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of this work centers on code, model experimentation, and cloud infrastructure rather than on-site hardware. Fully remote postings are most common for MLOps, model evaluation, and API integration roles, while positions involving proprietary hardware or defense systems typically require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a applied ai engineer in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an adjacent software engineering or data analyst role at a Washington employer, then moving internally once you build ML skills on the job. Microsoft and Amazon both run new-graduate programs and university recruiting pipelines that place candidates without professional AI experience into junior applied science or software development engineer roles that feed into AI teams. A strong portfolio of end-to-end ML projects, a cloud certification, and familiarity with Python and PyTorch give early-career candidates a concrete edge in Washington interviews.
Where can I find and apply to applied ai engineer jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to applied ai engineer jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
