Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
Travelers is seeking an Architect to join our organization as we grow and transform our Enterprise Technology Solutions organization. Our Architects are responsible for designing and guiding the technology vision that enables business transformation, specializing in creating enterprise-wide solutions that bridge current capabilities with future possibilities. This strategic position requires expertise in cloud-native technologies, APIs, AI/ML, and emerging platforms to establish scalable architectures where business applications can evolve and thrive. The ideal candidate orchestrates the technical strategy that empowers development teams - defining target states, creating technology roadmaps, and establishing architectural frameworks that accelerate innovation while maintaining standards and governance. As the essential bridge between business strategy and technical implementation, this role directly impacts organizational agility, system integration, and the enterprise's ability to rapidly adapt and scale technology solutions across the business landscape.
What Will You Do?
- Scope:
- Responsible for architecture within a specific segment or domain for a single business unit.
- Technical Execution:
- Provide architectural direction on technical patterns.
- Contribute to defining target state technology architecture and roadmaps.
- Conduct hands-on prototyping and technology proof of concepts.
- Partner in the execution of proof of technologies.
- Strategic Accountability:
- Contribute to target state architecture and roadmaps.
- Support technology modernization initiatives.
- Help minimize technical debt through continuous transformation.
- Build foundational relationships and encourage buy-in.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Technical Expertise & Education:
- Bachelor’s in technology related field or equivalent with 6 years of demonstrated engineering experience or 2 to 3 years of technology architecture experience.
- Recent hands-on architecture and/or engineering experience with modern technologies.
- Experience with successful execution of modernizing technology initiatives.
- Leadership & Influence:
- Intermediate leadership skills with the ability to foster a supportive learning environment where team members can develop and grow along with a proven track record of self-motivation in identifying opportunities and tracking team efforts.
- Strategic & Business Acumen:
- Experience working in an agile operating model.
- Insurance technology experience preferred.
- Understanding of value creation and business capability models.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry.
- Able to identify and analyze current/future problems and opportunities, evaluate information to understand root causes, and explore alternative solutions for effective decision-making.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teammates to achieve mutually responsible results.
- Experience exercising sound judgment, making decisions and committing to a position.
- Effective verbal, written and listening communication skills.
What is a Must Have?
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
- 4 additional years of architecture/software engineering experience.
