Architectural Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a architectural engineer in New York?
To practice as a licensed engineer in New York, you must earn a Professional Engineer license through the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions, which requires an accredited engineering degree, passage of the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering exams administered by NCEES, and qualifying work experience under a licensed PE. Most employers in New York also expect familiarity with New York City Building Code for roles tied to the city.
How much do architectural engineers make in New York?
Architectural engineers in New York earn a median of about $99,280 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,920 for the lowest 10% to over $165,660 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire architectural engineers in New York?
Employers hiring architectural engineers in New York right now include Capgemini, Amazon Web Services, and APD Engineering & Architecture, PLLC, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of large architecture and engineering firms, public transit agencies, and major developers means consistent hiring across both private practice and public sector roles throughout the state.
Which New York cities have the most architectural engineer jobs?
New York, Victor, and Brooklyn have the most architectural engineer openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its volume of commercial high-rise, institutional, and infrastructure projects, while Buffalo and Albany draw activity from public sector clients, university campus work, and regional infrastructure investment that keeps demand steady outside the metro.
Are there remote architectural engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're limited. About 34% of architectural engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that much of the work involves on-site coordination, field observation, and direct collaboration with construction teams. Design development, code analysis, and BIM documentation are the tasks most likely to appear in hybrid or partially remote arrangements.

The most realistic entry path is securing a junior engineer or project engineer associate role at a large New York architecture and engineering firm, where new graduates work alongside licensed PEs on live projects. Firms such as AECOM, Thornton Tomasetti, and Arup's New York office regularly bring on entry-level engineers.
