Description
To assist with the supervision and coordination of the University's overall sports medicine program, including, but not limited to: injury prevention, evaluation, management, and treatment of athletic injuries, short-term and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries, education and counseling of student-athletes, and athletics related to health care administration in consultation with and under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, Team Physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel. The preferred candidate will primarily provide coverage for Soccer and Track and Field; however, sport assignments are subject to change based on departmental needs.
Examples of Duties
Assist with providing of Athletic Training Services for seventeen men’s and women’s Division II intercollegiate athletic teams to include: -19%
- Implement, and maintain athletic training operational policies and procedures to include:
- Pre-participation examinations
- Risk Management including emergency action plans, blood borne pathogens and severe weather protocol
- Medical referrals
- Injury reporting system including HIPPA compliance
- Rehabilitation reporting system
- Rehabilitation protocols
- Treatment procedures
To assist with the formation of the University’s Athletic Training Staff to include hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of all graduate assistant athletic trainers, and athletic training students with regards to any and all duties. -10%
Provide coverage of assigned practices, home and away events to include; Injury evaluation, first aid and rehabilitation. -30%
Work in conjunction with the Masters Athletic Training Education Program Director with regards to all issues relating to the University’s Masters Athletic Training Education Program (MATEP) including: -15%
- Serve as Approval Clinical Instructor within the MATEP as directed by the Masters Athletic Training Education Program Director.
- Assist in the preparation of student athletic trainers for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) Examination.
- Teach in the MATEP as needed with prior approval of the University Athletics Director.
Assist with ordering and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Consult with the Team Physician(s) for guidance on the treatment of injured student-athletes, and report on their progress. Report the status of injured student-athletes to coaching staffs and periodically meet to identify and discuss problem areas. Work in conjunction with the coaching staff with regard to the strength, conditioning, and flexibility of student-athletes, nutritional issues, supplements/ergogenic aids, injury prevention, exercise technique, and rehabilitation of injured student-athletes. Additionally work in conjunction with the coaching staff on student-athlete nutritional issues, including but not limited to the prevention and treatment of eating disorders, weight gain and weight reduction techniques, and travel menus. -10%
Cooperate with the Media Relations Department with regards to the status of injured student-athletes for dissemination to media outlets. Work in conjunction with the equipment room staff regarding the safety of the athletic equipment, testing new equipment, to aid in the purchases of shoes and protective equipment, and to facilitate proper methods of fitting athletic equipment. Follow all University, NCAA, and MIAA policies and procedures. -6%
Represent the University of Central Missouri and the Sports Media Department at University, conference, and/or national meetings as required or requested. -5%
Maintains certification and license requirements of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and the State of Missouri Board of Healing Arts. -5%
Typical Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in the following field(s) of study: Athletic Training, Physical Education, Physical Therapy, or related field required.
- Master’s degree in the following field(s) of study: Athletic Training, Physical Education, Physical Therapy, or related field preferred.
Experience:
- One (1) year of proven experience as an athletic trainer.
- Must possess or be eligible for Athletic Training Licensure in the State of Missouri.
- Understanding and knowledge of NCAA and MIAA rules and guidelines.
Supplemental Information
Physical & Environmental Factors: Excessive standing and/or walking, Exposure to extreme temperatures
Physical Requirements: Lift 50 lbs
- Occasionally lifting from the ground to waist high 50 lbs., occasionally assisting athletes from the ground, and rarely assisting with carrying of injured athletes with a stretcher.
- Successfully demonstrate injury evaluation, first aid, and rehabilitation techniques.
