Jabil is looking to hire a Lead Automation Technician to work onsite in our Auburn Hills, MI plant.
How will you make an impact?
As a Lead Automation Technician, you will assist the Manufacturing Engineering Manager in the administration of the ME department to ensure smooth operation of the Manufacturing Engineering team. You will also be responsible for coordinating with management and customers to determine business strategies and respond to needs.
What will you do?
- Assist ME Manager with ME team goals and objectives.
- Provide timely feedback on employee performance, including compiling and conducting Performance Appraisals and the development of Training Plans.
- Plan and organize the automation engineering requirements, adjust workloads and delegate manpower as needed.
- Compile, document and interpret data required to monitor and analyze performance.
- Determine resource and infrastructure requirements for automation and support related projects.
- Coordinate with work cell management to develop business strategies and forecasts.
- Liaison with customers to resolve quality concerns.
- Develop and deploy manual semi-automatic fully automatic assembly and test strategies, focusing on scalability, flexibility, and cost effectiveness.
- Define and drive the automation roadmap for manufacturing assembly and test processes, aligned with business objectives and regional manufacturing strategies.
- Lead the deployment of automated test stations, improving First Pass Yield (FPY), data capture, and process control.
- Collaborate with Controls and IT teams on controls architecture, software solutions, and manufacturing data integration (PLC, HMI, MES, traceability).
- Manage cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, controls, IT, suppliers) to deliver automation projects on time and within budget.
- Establish standardized automation best practices, documentation, and training across regional sites.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to automation engineers and work cell teams.
- Stay current on emerging assembly automation, robotics, vision, and digital manufacturing technologies and evaluate applicability across Jabil.
- Provide on-call support to resolve engineering-related issues arising beyond normal business hours.
- Works safely at all times and complies with Environmental Health and Safety standards and work practices along with all other work rules.
How will you get here?
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or other similar related discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in a relevant industry position including
- Leadership or Supervisory experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of statistical methods and their application to a manufacturing process is required.
- Demonstrated experience creating process documentation including PFMEA’s, Process Flows and Visual Aids.
- Knowledge of ROI-driven automation projects, including feasibility studies, business cases, and risk assessments.
- Knowledge of quoting processes, process design, tooling design, or equipment programming is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of automotive, telecom, medical standards, and other industry Quality Management Systems/Electronic Management Systems standards.

Experience in the design and implementation of automated assembly lines, including:

Screw driving and torque-controlled automation
- Robotic part handling
- Tray and pallet-based material flow systems
- Vision-guided assembly and inspection
- Strong analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills required.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
