Assistant Construction Manager Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an assistant construction manager in Michigan?
Most assistant construction manager roles in Michigan require a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or architecture, though candidates with an associate degree plus hands-on field experience are competitive at smaller firms. Michigan does not issue a state construction manager license for this role, but employers consistently expect OSHA 30-Hour certification and, for public projects, familiarity with Michigan Department of Transportation contract requirements. Earning the Associate Constructor credential through the American Institute of Constructors strengthens candidacy significantly.
Which companies hire assistant construction managers in Michigan?
Employers hiring assistant construction managers in Michigan right now include Green Shield Deck Builders, Clark Construction Company, and AVB, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Michigan's strong healthcare construction and automotive facility retrofit markets mean firms specializing in those sectors post openings with particular frequency throughout the year.
Which Michigan cities have the most assistant construction manager jobs?
Lansing, Portage, and Ann Arbor account for the most assistant construction manager openings in Michigan. Detroit's large-scale commercial and infrastructure redevelopment drives the highest volume, while Grand Rapids sustains consistent demand through its growing healthcare and light industrial construction activity, and Lansing draws openings from state government facility projects and university campus development.
Are there remote assistant construction manager jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're rare. About 29% of assistant construction manager openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the fundamentally on-site nature of construction coordination work. The portions of the role most likely to be performed remotely include submittal review, RFI processing, scheduling updates, and preconstruction documentation tasks.
How can I get hired as an assistant construction manager in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to internship and co-op programs run by Michigan-based general contractors while completing a construction management degree at institutions like Michigan State University or Ferris State University, which have strong industry placement pipelines. Firms like Barton Malow and Walbridge regularly hire field engineers and project engineer associates as feeder roles into assistant construction manager positions. Obtaining OSHA 30-Hour certification before applying and building a portfolio of any estimating, scheduling, or field observation work, even from coursework, gives candidates a concrete edge over applicants without it.
Where can I find and apply to assistant construction manager jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to assistant construction manager jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings across commercial, infrastructure, industrial, and specialty construction. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to each one.
