How do I get a automation engineer job in Charlotte?
Focus on Charlotte's advanced manufacturing plants, energy utilities, and logistics hubs, which drive the strongest local demand for automation engineers. Candidates with hands-on PLC programming, SCADA systems, or robotics integration experience stand out in this market. Targeting employers in the University City and Ballantyne corridors, where engineering operations tend to cluster, gives you a practical geographic advantage when searching and networking.
Which companies hire automation engineers in Charlotte?

The local hiring mix includes large manufacturers, electric utilities, and third-party engineering and systems integration firms that serve Charlotte's industrial base.
Are there remote automation engineer jobs in Charlotte?
Yes, though remote work is limited for automation engineers since the role often requires on-site equipment programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting. About 72% of automation engineer openings tied to Charlotte are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions tend to cover design, documentation, and project management functions rather than hands-on implementation work.
How can I get a automation engineer job in Charlotte with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Charlotte is targeting controls or systems technician roles at local manufacturers or utilities, which often serve as a direct stepping stone into automation engineering. Community college and technical programs at Central Piedmont Community College feed entry-level pipelines at Charlotte-area industrial employers. Hands-on certifications in PLCs or industrial networking, combined with any internship at a Charlotte-area plant or integrator, significantly improve your chances with local hiring managers.
