Department Summary
The Business Analyst for Housing and Residence Life provides direct oversight of the application, auditing, research, reporting, data management and direct student service support related to all housing and dining charges. Partnering with the Bursar, Registrar, Finance and Administration, academic colleges, the Business Service Center and other campus partners, this position will be responsible for assessing and auditing all initial housing and dining charges while managing daily reconciliations, all refund processes, and reporting data for fiscal accountability and compliance. This position develops reports to support critical business functions, manages all analytical efforts for occupancy trends and forecasting and leads student outreach strategies associated with occupancy management, including room and occupancy verification processes and other data management processes. This position oversees the general BSO Check-In experience in collaboration with the New Student and Family Programs office. This position will also serve as a member of the Housing and Residence Life team to support student recruitment and retention efforts, to include admissions events (travel or on campus) and Bobcat Student Orientation and on call efforts when required.
Key Responsibilities:

Financial Transaction Analysis and Application: Responsible for the initial per semester assessment of housing and dining charges, for accuracy of over $100M of annual room and meal plan charges that delivers to the students’ general ledger through the integration between occupancy management software and university student information systems. Audits daily reconciliation reports of new charges and credits as a result of room and meal plan changes. Reviews and updates OHIO Guarantee Cohort Codes for all students to align with appropriate cohorts for accuracy of room and meal plan rate charges, credits and refunds. Benchmarks with peer institutions within the state to ensure that room and meal plan increase recommendations maintains OHIO’s competitive financial position. Creates housing and dining rate tables, proration rate tables and refund tables for each semester (including summer) and programs logic in the housing occupancy software. Responsible for baseline testing to ensure each room rate and dining rate charge and credit is accurate in each term and for each cohort, appropriate rate table and transaction type. Applies and audits staff credits and adjusts staff housing deposits to apply towards student account as appropriate. Partners with the Bursar’s office to ensure correct application of housing and dining charges from the occupancy management software to the University student information system, ensures compliance with Finance and Administration billing standards, and resolves for any discrepancies with OHIO Guarantee Cohort changes. Works with the Associate Directors of Housing to advocate for housing software development that best supports accountability and efficiency.

Business and Data Analysis: Responsible for semesterly financial statement preparation and reporting to Finance and Administration. Runs Oracle financial statements for all areas of Housing and Residence Life. Runs and reviews month to date and year to date financials for Business Operations for accuracy. Generates financial performance summary to accompany reports and answers questions regarding financial performance. Partners with the Business Service Center to generate reports and data to support essential budgetary transactions and reporting needs (ie – room revenue verification, meal plan reports, etc). Responsible for maintaining current student yield and retention data and trend analysis to support the Director of Business Operations with annual occupancy management strategies. Generates reports in the housing occupancy management platform for departmental, divisional and university needs.

Student Service Support: Supports students on an individual basis through a lens of recruitment and retention. Collaborates with the Bursar, Registrar and Academic Colleges to identify students at risk for retention. Serves on tuition appeal, supports CARE and DOS requests as needed for student access and withdrawal information. Generates reports through OBI for students who have prior term balances, are academically dismissed or are in housing and not registered for appropriate outreach, communication and retention strategies. Supports students with term balances for appropriate connections to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for retention optimization. Manages and communicates with students who are going through the medical contract termination process. Manages Housing and Residence Life’s roster verification processes throughout the entire year, including student outreach. Direct liaison with Culinary for Transact information including staff meals, meal additions (Early Arrival), post-opening meal plan declines (flex points). Partners with office of New Student and Family Programs to offer the BSO Check-In experience for all first year student attending BSO. Includes collaboration, staffing, training and executing the student and parent check-in experience for BSO, including distributing Financial Aid packets, BSO registration cards, BSO Housing registration cards and executing the slate check-in module.

Advocates and promotes student well-being through roles and responsibilities in support of the department, division, and university initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Profile

Monitors accuracy of data used in reports and queries, assists in definition of future data needs, and provides expertise to assist database users. Provides strategic financial planning, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources.

This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3-5 years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience.
