INTRODUCTION
Stryten Energy in the Fort Smith, AR area, operates a growing battery manufacturing factory. Through the Industrial Power division, we are an essential business that produces batteries, services and solutions for the Motive and Network Power industries.
The exempt Buyer is responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the Company's needs for indirect materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality, and delivery competitive levels consistent with Company policy and performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning, scheduling of receipt and inventory control of the products and services as assigned consistent with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) requirements or as appropriately concluded as requisitioned.

Responsibilities
- Prepare purchase orders and send copies to suppliers and to departments originating requests.
- Determine if inventory quantities are sufficient for needs, ordering more materials when necessary.
- Responsible for validating quantities of products that the buyer purchases.
- Help in assisting with co-buyer’s count verification and coverage for other buyers.
- Review requisition orders to verify accuracy, terminology, and specifications.
- Prepare, maintain, and review purchasing files, reports and price lists.
- Compare prices, specifications, and delivery dates to determine the best bid among potential suppliers.
- Track the status of requisitions, contracts, purchase orders, invoices and credit memos.
- Calculate cost of orders and charge or forward invoices to appropriate accounts.
- Secures and analyzes quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers; and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
- Works with Production Control Manager and Inventory Control Supervisor to support sourcing programs with Procurement in seeking alternate suppliers.
- Respond to customer and supplier inquiries about order status, changes, or cancellations.
- Contact suppliers to schedule or expedite deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed or late deliveries, and other problems.
- Regular attendance and timeliness is required in order to give sufficient support to the plant-wide team.
- While performing the duties of this job the individual is occasionally required to vary their scheduled times and shifts.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Two years’ experience working in a purchasing and scheduling function in the manufacturing industry.
- Two years’ experience working in a team environment – problem solving, conflict resolution, building cooperative relationships, and effective communications.
Preferred:
- Five years of experience in the purchasing and scheduling field working with vendors, customers, management, marketing, sales, production, and engineering towards continuous improvement efforts and projects at the site level.
- Experience working in a union manufacturing plant is a plus.
- A procurement and supply chain designation like APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) is a plus.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
Required:
- Working knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Ability to communicate with multiple levels of vendors, customers, dealers, co-workers and management in order to achieve optimum plant performance.
- Working knowledge of procurement and supply chain best practices and operating procedures related to logistics.
- Good organization/administrative and time management skills.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
- High energy, self-motivated, ability to be successful without direct supervision.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred:
- Background in procurement and supply chain systems or management.
- Knowledge of Industrial Batteries and Chargers and/or Material Handling markets a plus.
- Critical thinking and good troubleshooting technique.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- While performing the duties of this job the individual is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear.
- While performing the duties of this job the individual is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Ability to occasionally lift a minimum 25lbs and 26 to 150lbs with assistance of equipment.
- Regular use of safety glasses and steel toed shoes. Limited use of respirator. Vision requirements; close vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- While performing the duties of this job, individual is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
- Individual occasionally exposed to precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
- Noise level is minimal to loud.
- Regularly is working in a lead contaminated area and must wear a uniform and safety shoes in that area to prevent the tracking and/or possible lead contamination of other clean areas or outside or the regulated areas.
