Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a certified prosthetist/orthotist in Texas?
To work as a certified prosthetist/orthotist in Texas, you must hold a state license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which requires a master's degree from a CAAHEP-accredited prosthetics and orthotics program, completion of a supervised residency, and a passing score on the ABC or BOC certification exams. Once credentialed nationally, you apply to TDLR for a Texas practitioner license before treating patients independently.
How much do certified Prosthetist/Orthotists make in Texas?
Certified Prosthetist/Orthotists in Texas earn a median of about $77,220 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,390 for the lowest 10% to over $107,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire certified prosthetist/orthotists in Texas?
Employers hiring certified prosthetist/orthotists in Texas right now include Hanger, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large veterans' health care network and its concentration of nationally operated orthotic and prosthetic clinic chains make it one of the more consistent states for full-time openings throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most certified prosthetist/orthotist jobs?
Cedar Park, Conroe, and Dallas account for the most certified prosthetist/orthotist openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth draw the most postings because of their large hospital networks, trauma centers, and the regional headquarters of national O&P companies, while San Antonio's concentration of military bases and veterans' care facilities generates steady demand independent of the commercial clinic market.
Are there remote certified prosthetist/orthotist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Certified prosthetist/orthotist work is fundamentally hands-on, requiring direct patient fitting, casting, and adjustment that cannot be performed off-site. About 0% of certified prosthetist/orthotist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve administrative, clinical educator, or product specialist roles rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a certified prosthetist/orthotist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a formal residency with an established Texas employer immediately after graduation. Large clinic operators such as Hanger Clinic and the South Texas Veterans Health Care System regularly onboard new residents and associate-level practitioners. Candidates who complete their ABC or BOC credentials before their residency ends have a clear advantage, and roles titled orthotics and prosthetics assistant or O&P technician serve as a lateral entry point for those still accumulating supervised hours.
Where can I find and apply to certified prosthetist/orthotist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to certified prosthetist/orthotist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and credentials and apply directly to each one.
