Neurologist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a neurologist in Texas?
To become a neurologist in Texas you must earn an MD or DO, complete an ACGME-accredited neurology residency, and obtain a Texas Medical License through the Texas Medical Board, which requires passing USMLE or COMLEX Steps and a background review. Many Texas employers also require board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Subspecialty fellowship training in areas such as epilepsy or stroke strengthens candidacy at academic and quaternary centers.
How much do neurologists make in Texas?
Neurologists in Texas earn a median of about $360,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $99,490 for the lowest 10% to over $449,840 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire neurologists in Texas?
Employers hiring neurologists in Texas right now include Houston Methodist, Baylor Scott & White Health, and CommonSpirit Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's scale and population growth mean both large integrated systems and independent multispecialty groups maintain ongoing recruitment pipelines rather than filling positions only when vacancies arise.
Which Texas cities have the most neurologist jobs?
Houston, Lubbock, and College Station have the most neurologist openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth dominate because of their density of Level I trauma centers, academic medical schools, and large integrated health systems, while San Antonio's consistent demand is driven by its military health infrastructure, UT Health San Antonio, and a rapidly expanding civilian patient population.
Are there remote neurologist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of neurologist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on clinical nature of most neurology positions. The roles most likely to carry remote or hybrid flexibility are tele-neurology consultations and outpatient follow-up visits where the physician reviews imaging and speaks with patients without requiring in-person examination.
How can I get hired as a neurologist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly for attending positions immediately after residency completion, as most Texas health systems recruit new graduates rather than requiring prior post-training experience. UT Southwestern, Memorial Hermann, and Baylor Scott and White all run structured onboarding programs for first-year attendings. Candidates who have completed a fellowship or hold a subspecialty interest in stroke or epilepsy gain a measurable edge in competitive markets, and community neurology groups across mid-size Texas cities are often more accessible entry points than flagship academic centers.
Where can I find and apply to neurologist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to neurologist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from health systems and medical groups hiring now. Find the roles that fit your training and preferred practice setting and apply directly to the positions that match.
