Certified Surgical Technologist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a certified surgical technologist in Texas?
To become a certified surgical technologist in Texas, you must complete an accredited surgical technology program through a CAAHEP or ABHES-approved school, then pass the CST exam administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Texas does not issue a separate state license for surgical technologists, so the NBSTSA credential is the primary qualification employers recognize. Many Texas community colleges, including those in the Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio areas, offer accredited programs.
How much do certified surgical technologists make in Texas?
Certified surgical technologists in Texas earn a median of about $65,220 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,950 for the lowest 10% to over $92,580 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire certified surgical technologists in Texas?
Employers hiring certified surgical technologists in Texas right now include CHRISTUS Health, Memorial Hermann Health System, and Ascension, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems and its dense network of ambulatory surgery centers mean openings appear across both major metros and mid-sized cities throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most certified surgical technologist jobs?
San Antonio, Houston, and Austin have the most certified surgical technologist openings in Texas, reflecting the concentration of major hospital systems, level-one trauma centers, and high-volume ambulatory surgery centers in those metros. Smaller cities like El Paso and Corpus Christi also generate consistent openings tied to regional medical centers and Veterans Affairs facilities serving large local populations.
Are there remote certified surgical technologist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Surgical technology is a hands-on OR role that requires physical presence in the operating room, so the vast majority of positions are fully on-site. About 0% of certified surgical technologist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those limited exceptions typically involve training coordination, surgical technology education, or administrative case management roles rather than direct scrub duties.
How can I get hired as a certified surgical technologist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for surgical tech internship or new-graduate positions through large Texas health systems that hire directly from accredited programs, such as HCA Healthcare and Baylor Scott & White Health, both of which onboard recent graduates into structured OR orientations. Candidates who completed clinical rotations at Texas hospital sites often have an advantage when applying to those same facilities. Holding a current NBSTSA CST credential and BLS certification from graduation day makes an immediate difference, and some candidates enter through surgical tech assistant or sterile processing technician roles while building OR exposure.
Where can I find and apply to certified surgical technologist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to certified surgical technologist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across hospital systems, surgery centers, and specialty practices.
