Medical Doctor Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical doctor in Texas?
To practice as a medical doctor in Texas, you must hold an MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school, complete an accredited residency, and obtain an active license from the Texas Medical Board. The Texas Medical Board oversees physician licensing, requires passing scores on the USMLE or COMLEX series, and mandates a criminal background check. International medical graduates must also provide ECFMG certification before applying for a Texas license.
Which companies hire medical doctors in Texas?
Employers hiring medical doctors in Texas right now include Baylor Scott & White Health, Baylor College of Medicine, and MD Anderson Cancer Center, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's scale as the second-largest state supports a wide range of physician employers, from large integrated health systems with dozens of facilities to federally qualified health centers serving rural and underserved communities across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most medical doctor jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth have the most medical doctor openings in Texas. Houston leads because of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, while Dallas-Fort Worth draws hiring from major systems including UT Southwestern and Baylor Scott and White, and San Antonio benefits from its large military medical infrastructure and University Health network serving one of the state's fastest-growing populations.
Are there remote medical doctor jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 4% of medical doctor openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that most physician roles require direct patient contact in a clinical setting. The exceptions tend to be in telemedicine, utilization review, remote patient monitoring, and physician advisory or consulting positions that do not require hands-on care.
How can I get hired as a medical doctor in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a residency or fellowship matched to a Texas program through the National Resident Matching Program, which places new graduates directly into supervised clinical roles. Large Texas systems such as UT Southwestern, Memorial Hermann, and Texas Children's Hospital sponsor robust graduate medical education programs. Physicians transitioning from research or military service often enter through hospitalist or urgent care associate roles, where Texas employers routinely consider candidates within their final year of training.
Where can I find and apply to medical doctor jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to medical doctor jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers across specialties and practice settings. Find roles that fit your training and preferences and apply directly to the employers posting them.
