Licensed Professional Counselor Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a licensed professional counselor in Texas?
Licensure in Texas is issued by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. You'll need a master's degree in counseling or a related field, completion of a supervised internship embedded in your graduate program, and then registration as an LPC Associate while you accumulate additional supervised hours under a board-approved supervisor. After fulfilling the supervised experience requirement, you apply to upgrade to full LPC status and must pass the National Counselor Examination.
Which companies hire licensed professional counselors in Texas?
Employers hiring licensed professional counselors in Texas right now include LifeStance Health, Amistad Community Health Center, and Heart Centered Counseling, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large community mental health centers, integrated health systems, and school districts all maintain ongoing hiring cycles for credentialed counselors across clinical and outpatient settings.
Which Texas cities have the most licensed professional counselor jobs?
Austin, Corpus Christi, and Frisco have the most licensed professional counselor openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth lead because of their size and the concentration of hospital systems, community mental health centers, and private group practices, while Austin's rapid population growth has driven sustained demand across school districts and outpatient behavioral health clinics.
Are there remote licensed professional counselor jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many clinical roles, because licensed professional counselors increasingly deliver talk therapy via telehealth platforms. About 43% of licensed professional counselor openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that shift. Individual therapy sessions and case management consultations are the functions most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a licensed professional counselor in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to register as an LPC Associate immediately after graduation and pursue a position at a community mental health center, where Texas employers such as MHMR authorities and Integral Care actively hire new graduates specifically to complete their supervised hours. Adjacent roles like case manager, mental health technician, or community health worker at those same organizations let you build familiarity with clinical workflows and often lead directly to counseling vacancies. A completed practicum in a Texas-based setting and a supervision agreement with a board-approved LPC Supervisor meaningfully strengthen any application.
Where can I find and apply to licensed professional counselor jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to licensed professional counselor jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers hiring now. Find roles that fit your credentials and experience, then apply directly to the listings that match.
