Internal Medicine Physician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a internal medicine physician in Texas?
To practice as an internal medicine physician in Texas, you must obtain a license from the Texas Medical Board, which requires completing medical school, finishing an accredited Internal Medicine residency, and passing the USMLE or COMLEX series. After licensure, most positions also require board certification through the American Board of Internal Medicine. The Texas Medical Board handles all applications, verifications, and renewals for physician licensure in the state.
How much do internal medicine physicians make in Texas?
Internal medicine physicians in Texas earn a median of about $269,110 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,460 for the lowest 10% to over $387,660 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire internal medicine physicians in Texas?
Employers hiring internal medicine physicians in Texas right now include Optum, Texas Health Resources, and Baylor College of Medicine, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's scale and population growth keep demand steady across large integrated health systems, independent hospital groups, and multispecialty clinic networks throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most internal medicine physician jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Galveston have the most internal medicine physician openings in Texas. Houston drives the highest volume as home to the Texas Medical Center, one of the largest medical complexes in the world, while Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio reflect the concentration of major health system headquarters, academic affiliates, and rapidly expanding outpatient networks serving their large metro populations.
Are there remote internal medicine physician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of internal medicine physician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that most of the role requires direct patient evaluation and hands-on clinical care. The portions most suited to remote work are telemedicine follow-up visits, chronic disease management consultations, and administrative or medical director duties within larger health systems.
How can I get hired as a internal medicine physician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly for attending positions at Texas hospitals and health systems that actively recruit new residency graduates, including large employers like Baylor Scott and White Health and HCA-affiliated facilities, which maintain structured onboarding programs for first-year attendings. Hospitalist group practices across Texas frequently hire physicians completing their final residency year. Obtaining Texas Medical Board licensure and ABIM board eligibility before graduation, and pursuing locum tenens assignments within Texas, strengthens a candidate's profile considerably before securing a permanent role.
Where can I find and apply to internal medicine physician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to internal medicine physician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers. Find roles that fit your experience and target location, then apply directly to those positions.
