Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pediatric nurse practitioner in Texas?
To practice as a pediatric nurse practitioner in Texas, you must earn a Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice with a pediatric focus, pass the PNCB or ANCC pediatric NP certification exam, and obtain an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license from the Texas Board of Nursing. Texas also requires a separate prescriptive authority registration if you will prescribe medications, which is handled through the same board.
How much do pediatric nurse practitioners make in Texas?
Pediatric nurse practitioners in Texas earn a median of about $131,670 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $96,880 for the lowest 10% to over $161,980 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pediatric nurse practitioners in Texas?
Employers hiring pediatric nurse practitioners in Texas right now include Pediatrix Medical, Baylor College of Medicine, and Texas Children's Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas Children's Hospital, Children's Health Dallas, and UT Health are among the large, established systems with consistent pediatric NP openings across inpatient, outpatient, and subspecialty settings.
Which Texas cities have the most pediatric nurse practitioner jobs?
The cities with the most pediatric nurse practitioner openings in Texas are Houston, Austin, and Dallas. Houston leads because of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, which anchors Texas Children's Hospital and several other major pediatric programs, while Dallas and San Antonio draw volume from large children's hospital systems and growing suburban outpatient clinic networks.
Are there remote pediatric nurse practitioner jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Pediatric nurse practitioner work is primarily hands-on and requires in-person patient care, which limits remote options significantly. About 0% of pediatric nurse practitioner openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are concentrated in pediatric telehealth triage, care coordination, and population health management roles rather than direct clinical practice.
How can I get hired as a pediatric nurse practitioner in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new graduate NP residency or fellowship, and Texas Children's Hospital and Children's Health Dallas both run structured NP residency programs designed for new graduates without post-certification experience. Applying to primary care pediatrics clinics within large Texas health systems is also effective, as those settings tend to offer more supervision and onboarding support. Holding active PNCB or ANCC certification and a Texas prescriptive authority registration before you apply gives you a clear edge over candidates still completing credentials.
