Tips for Your NP Job Search
Tailor your resume to population focus
Hiring managers scan for the patient population you've treated, not just your credentials. Call out age group, acuity level, and care setting in your summary so a pediatric urgent care or geriatric SNF hiring team can immediately confirm fit.
List your certification and state licenses clearly
Put your board certification acronym and every active state license near the top of your resume. Recruiters filter by these before reading anything else, and a buried or missing AANP or ANCC credential will cost you an interview.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists np openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target postings by practice autonomy level
Full-practice-authority states give you far more clinical independence than restricted states. When you search, filter by location and check the supervision or collaboration requirements in the job description before you invest time applying.
Prepare a clinical case or quality improvement example
Most np panel interviews include a scenario question about a complex patient or a protocol you improved. Walk interviewers through your assessment, differential, plan, and outcome using a real case from your clinical rotations or current practice.
Negotiate beyond base salary at the offer stage
Ask specifically about CME allowance, DEA registration reimbursement, malpractice tail coverage, and loan repayment eligibility. These benefits vary widely between health systems and private practices and add meaningful value beyond the base offer.
NP Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most nps?
The companies hiring the most nps right now include Signify Health, Optum, and LifeStance Health, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Health systems, federally qualified health centers, and large multispecialty groups consistently post the highest volume of np openings nationwide.
How many np jobs are remote?
About 6% of np openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with availability varying significantly by specialty. Telepsychiatry, chronic disease management, and triage roles account for the largest share of fully remote positions, while procedure-heavy or acute care roles are almost always on-site.
How do you become a np?
You become an np by first completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and earning your registered nurse license, then enrolling in an accredited master's or doctoral nurse practitioner program in your chosen specialty. After completing required clinical hours, you sit for national board certification through AANP or ANCC, then apply for state licensure as a nurse practitioner in each state where you plan to practice.
How do you get hired as a np with little or no experience?
New-grad nps typically land their first role by leveraging clinical rotation sites, since many practices hire from their own preceptorship pool. Applying to new-grad residency and fellowship programs at hospital systems gives you structured mentorship while building your chart volume. Highlighting your clinical hours, patient population exposure, and any quality improvement projects from your program helps compensate for limited post-graduation experience.
What does the np interview process look like?
Most np interviews start with a phone screen from a recruiter or practice manager covering your specialty, licensure, and availability. A second round typically involves a panel with the medical director, lead np, or department head who will ask clinical scenario questions and assess your fit with the care model. Some employers add a credentialing pre-check or a brief working interview in the clinic before extending an offer.
Where can I find and apply to np jobs?
You can find and apply to np jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty, preferred setting, and location, then apply directly to each one that fits.
