Hygienist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hygienist in Texas?
To become a licensed dental hygienist in Texas, you must complete an accredited dental hygiene program, then pass both the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and a regional clinical board examination. After passing, you apply for licensure through the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. Texas also requires hygienists to complete continuing education hours each renewal cycle to keep their license active.
How much do hygienists make in Texas?
Hygienists in Texas earn a median of about $99,240 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $71,530 for the lowest 10% to over $117,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire hygienists in Texas?
Employers hiring hygienists in Texas right now include Affordable Dentures & Implants, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and Air Products, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large and growing population of dental service organizations, independent group practices, and hospital-affiliated clinics means consistent openings across the state, not just in the major metros.
Which Texas cities have the most hygienist jobs?
Abilene, Baytown, and Denison have the most hygienist openings in Texas right now. Houston and Dallas drive the highest volume because of their size and the concentration of large dental service organizations, specialty group practices, and health system-affiliated clinics based there, while San Antonio's strong military and federal healthcare presence adds steady demand from VA and TRICARE-affiliated facilities.
Are there remote hygienist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Dental hygiene is a hands-on clinical role, so most positions require in-person patient care. About 11% of hygienist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to fall in non-clinical areas such as dental hygiene education, public health program coordination, or clinical compliance review rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a hygienist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a new-graduate position at a large dental service organization, since groups like Aspen Dental and Heartland Dental regularly hire newly licensed hygienists and offer structured onboarding. Texas community health centers and federally qualified health clinics also hire new grads for public health hygiene roles. Completing your Texas State Board of Dental Examiners license immediately after boards and building radiography proficiency during your program gives you a clear edge over candidates still in process.
Where can I find and apply to hygienist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to hygienist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your experience, location preference, and specialty focus, then apply directly to the employer through each listing.
