Hygienist Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hygienist in Missouri?
To become a dental hygienist in Missouri, you must complete an accredited dental hygiene program and pass both the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination and a regional clinical board exam. You then apply for licensure through the Missouri Dental Board, which oversees all dental hygiene licenses in the state. Missouri also requires continuing education for license renewal, so maintaining active status means completing approved coursework on a regular cycle.
How much do hygienists make in Missouri?
Hygienists in Missouri earn a median of about $92,750 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,880 for the lowest 10% to over $99,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire hygienists in Missouri?
Employers hiring hygienists in Missouri right now include Heartland Dental, Aspen Dental, and Dental Depot, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's mix of large health systems, private dental groups, and federally qualified health centers means openings appear across corporate, nonprofit, and independent practice settings throughout the state.
Which Missouri cities have the most hygienist jobs?
St. Louis, Kansas City, and Brentwood have the most hygienist openings in Missouri. Kansas City and St. Louis drive the bulk of postings because of their large hospital systems, multi-location dental groups, and dense residential populations, while Springfield supports a strong local market anchored by regional health networks and a large university student base that keeps dental demand consistent.
Are there remote hygienist jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of hygienist openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which reflects that most hygiene work requires direct patient contact in a clinical setting. The exceptions tend to be roles in dental education, public health program coordination, or telehealth consultation, where a portion of duties can be handled off-site.
How can I get hired as a hygienist in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate positions at large Missouri dental groups and health systems such as Mercy Health or BJC HealthCare, which regularly bring on recent dental hygiene graduates. Community health centers funded through Missouri's federally qualified health center network also hire entry-level hygienists and often provide structured mentorship. Completing your Missouri Dental Board licensure before applying and gaining any clinic hours during your accredited program will strengthen your candidacy significantly.
Where can I find and apply to hygienist jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to hygienist jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that fit your experience, location preference, and specialty, then apply directly to the positions that match.
