Dental Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a dental assistant in Texas?
In Texas, dental assistants who perform certain clinical duties must register with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners as a registered dental assistant. The path typically involves completing an accredited dental assisting program at a Texas community college or vocational school, passing a board-recognized exam such as the DANB CDA, and fulfilling the state radiography requirements. Assistants performing expanded functions must hold additional certifications approved by the Board.
How much do dental assistants make in Texas?
Dental assistants in Texas earn a median of about $45,430 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $35,400 for the lowest 10% to over $57,640 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire dental assistants in Texas?
Employers hiring dental assistants in Texas right now include Aspen Dental, Rodeo Dental & Orthodontics, and Baylor College of Medicine, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large DSO market and dense population of multi-location group practices mean consistent, high-volume hiring across the state's major metros and surrounding suburbs.
Which Texas cities have the most dental assistant jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth have the most dental assistant openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas drive volume because of their sheer population size and the concentration of DSO regional headquarters and specialty group practices there, while San Antonio's steady growth and large military-connected population support consistent demand at both private and community health clinic practices.
Are there remote dental assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Dental assisting is a hands-on chairside role, so the vast majority of positions require in-person attendance at a clinic or practice. About 3% of dental assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to concentrate in administrative or dental insurance coordination functions rather than clinical work.
How can I get hired as a dental assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a dental assisting certificate program at a Texas community college, such as those offered through the Dallas College or San Jacinto College systems, then applying to large DSO groups like Aspen Dental or Pacific Dental Services, which run structured onboarding programs for new assistants. Candidates coming from dental receptionist or sterilization technician roles often transition into assistant positions. Earning your DANB radiation certificate before applying gives a measurable edge over other entry-level applicants.
Where can I find and apply to dental assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to dental assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your credentials, location, and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
