Orthopedic Surgeon Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a orthopedic surgeon in Texas?
To practice as an orthopedic surgeon in Texas, you must obtain an active Texas Medical License through the Texas Medical Board, which requires graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of an accredited orthopedic surgery residency, and passage of the USMLE or COMLEX exam series. Most Texas health systems also require board certification through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery before granting full privileges.
How much do orthopedic surgeons make in Texas?
Orthopedic surgeons in Texas earn a median of about $200,780 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $75,580 for the lowest 10% to over $758,150 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire orthopedic surgeons in Texas?
Employers hiring orthopedic surgeons in Texas right now include CHRISTUS Health, Houston Methodist, and Baylor Scott & White Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems, academic medical centers affiliated with UT Southwestern, Baylor College of Medicine, and Texas A&M, along with independent orthopedic specialty groups, generate consistent openings across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most orthopedic surgeon jobs?
The cities with the most orthopedic surgeon openings in Texas are Houston, Temple, and Beaumont. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth dominate because of their concentration of major health systems, level-one trauma centers, and large employer campuses, while San Antonio benefits from a strong military medical infrastructure and growing civilian health networks that require orthopedic coverage.
Are there remote orthopedic surgeon jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Orthopedic surgery is a hands-on surgical specialty that requires physical presence in the operating room, clinic, and hospital, making fully remote positions uncommon. About 0% of orthopedic surgeon openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically cover telehealth consultations, preoperative assessments, or post-operative follow-up visits rather than surgical duties.
How can I get hired as a orthopedic surgeon in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a first attending position immediately after completing your orthopedic residency or fellowship, targeting large Texas health systems such as UT Health, Baylor Scott and White, or HCA Houston Healthcare, which regularly recruit newly trained surgeons. Completing a fellowship in a high-demand area like sports medicine or spine surgery significantly strengthens your candidacy, and having your Texas Medical Board license in hand before interviews begin is essential.
Where can I find and apply to orthopedic surgeon jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to orthopedic surgeon jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Search the listings, find roles that match your training and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
