Hospitalist Physician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hospitalist physician in Texas?
You must hold a valid Texas Medical License issued by the Texas Medical Board, which requires graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of an ACGME-accredited residency, and passing USMLE or COMLEX steps. After licensure, most Texas hospital systems require board certification or active board eligibility in internal medicine, family medicine, or a related specialty. A Texas DEA registration is also required before you can prescribe.
How much do hospitalist physicians make in Texas?
Hospitalist physicians in Texas earn a median of about $269,110 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,460 for the lowest 10% to over $387,660 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire hospitalist physicians in Texas?
Employers hiring hospitalist physicians in Texas right now include Baylor Scott & White Health, Pediatrix Medical, and Baylor College of Medicine, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's size and hospital density mean large integrated systems and physician management groups both maintain ongoing hospitalist recruitment pipelines throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most hospitalist physician jobs?
Frisco, Austin, and Burleson have the most hospitalist physician openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas lead because of their dense concentration of Level I trauma centers, academic medical centers, and large regional hospital networks, while San Antonio's strong military medical infrastructure and growing civilian health systems drive consistent demand in that market.
Are there remote hospitalist physician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Hospitalist medicine is by definition a bedside discipline, so the overwhelming majority of positions require full on-site presence. About 0% of hospitalist physician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles tend to be in telemedicine triage or overnight virtual coverage, not traditional inpatient rounding.
How can I get hired as a hospitalist physician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-graduate or early-career hospitalist tracks at large Texas academic systems like Baylor Scott & White Health and UT Health, which regularly recruit physicians coming out of residency. Focus on internal medicine or family medicine residency completion as the core credential, then target programs that offer structured mentorship, lower census expectations, and embedded quality training for first-year attendings in Texas facilities.
Where can I find and apply to hospitalist physician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to hospitalist physician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Find roles that fit your specialty, experience level, and preferred Texas location and apply directly to those employers.
