Hospitalist Physician Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hospitalist physician in New York?
To become a hospitalist physician in New York, you must hold a New York State medical license issued by the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions, which requires graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of a residency, and passage of the USMLE or COMLEX sequence. Most New York employers additionally require board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or a related specialty. Large systems like Northwell Health and NYU Langone Health credential physicians directly through their medical staff offices.
How much do hospitalist physicians make in New York?
Hospitalist physicians in New York earn a median of about $183,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,160 for the lowest 10% to over $416,640 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire hospitalist physicians in New York?
Employers hiring hospitalist physicians in New York right now include Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, NYU Langone Health, and White Plains Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of large academic medical centers and multi-hospital regional systems means hospitalist openings are distributed across both major metro areas and smaller upstate markets throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most hospitalist physician jobs?
The New York cities with the most hospitalist physician openings are Brooklyn, White Plains, and Bronx. New York City dominates by volume given the concentration of academic medical centers, safety-net hospitals, and private health systems in the metro, while Buffalo and Albany reflect strong regional health systems and academic affiliates such as SUNY-affiliated hospitals that sustain steady hospitalist demand outside the five boroughs.
Are there remote hospitalist physician jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Hospitalist medicine is fundamentally a bedside, in-patient role requiring direct patient assessment, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 0% of hospitalist physician openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and these are concentrated in telemedicine coverage roles or administrative and physician advisor positions rather than traditional inpatient attending work.
How can I get hired as a hospitalist physician in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly through a hospital medicine fellowship or new-graduate attending program, which large New York systems including Northwell Health and NYC Health and Hospitals operate for physicians completing residency. Candidates who have finished an Internal Medicine residency but lack independent attending experience often enter as nocturnists or in co-management roles alongside subspecialists. Obtaining your New York State medical license and board eligibility before applying, and targeting community hospitals in upstate New York, significantly broadens the field of accessible first positions.
Where can I find and apply to hospitalist physician jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to hospitalist physician jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that fit your credentials and experience, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
