Diagnostic Radiologist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a diagnostic radiologist in New York?
You must hold an active New York State medical license issued by the New York State Education Department, which requires graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of a diagnostic radiology residency, passing USMLE Steps 1 through 3, and submitting a licensure application. Most New York employers also require board certification or eligibility through the American Board of Radiology. Fellowship training in a subspecialty strengthens candidacy at academic and tertiary-care institutions.
How much do diagnostic radiologists make in New York?
Diagnostic radiologists in New York earn a median of about $441,580 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,760 for the lowest 10% to over $544,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire diagnostic radiologists in New York?
Employers hiring diagnostic radiologists in New York right now include Optum, Trinity Health, and Bassett Healthcare Network, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of large academic medical centers and regional hospital networks means consistent openings across both employed group models and hospital-based staff positions.
Which New York cities have the most diagnostic radiologist jobs?
Syracuse, Bethpage, and Cooperstown have the most diagnostic radiologist openings in New York. New York City dominates because of the density of academic medical centers, specialty hospitals, and large health systems headquartered there, while Buffalo and Albany draw demand from regional health networks and academic affiliates serving upstate New York populations.
Are there remote diagnostic radiologist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they are less common than in most analytical fields because diagnostic radiology requires credentialing at each facility and often on-site coverage for procedures and consultations. About 57% of diagnostic radiologist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with teleradiology reading positions representing the segment most likely to be fully remote.
How can I get hired as a diagnostic radiologist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a residency-to-hire pipeline at a large New York academic system such as NYU Langone, Montefiore, or Stony Brook Medicine, which regularly convert their own residents and fellows into attending staff. New graduates without prior attending experience can target hospitalist radiology groups, teleradiology reading services, and community hospital systems across upstate New York, where competition is lower. Holding an active New York State medical license and ABR board eligibility before applying gives candidates a clear hiring edge.
Where can I find and apply to diagnostic radiologist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to diagnostic radiologist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that fit your subspecialty, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that match.
