NP Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a np in New York?
You become a nurse practitioner in New York by completing an accredited master's or doctoral nursing program, then applying for licensure through the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions. New York requires national board certification from a recognized body such as ANCC or AANP as part of the licensure process. Once licensed, NPs in New York hold full practice authority, meaning they can practice, prescribe, and refer without a physician collaboration agreement after meeting experience requirements.
Which companies hire nps in New York?
Employers hiring nps in New York right now include TeamHealth, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and Northwell Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's large integrated health systems and federally qualified health centers are among the most consistent sources of NP openings, particularly in primary care and behavioral health.
Which New York cities have the most np jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Rochester have the most np openings in New York. New York City dominates by volume given the density of academic medical centers, specialty practices, and community health networks, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady demand through regional hospital systems and state government health programs that anchor hiring outside the metro area.
Are there remote np jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 31% of np openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most clinical work. Telehealth-focused roles in psychiatry and primary care are the most likely to offer fully remote or hybrid schedules, and New York's full practice authority makes NPs attractive candidates for telehealth platforms serving the state.
How can I get hired as a np in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-graduate NP residency or fellowship programs, which Northwell Health, NYC Health and Hospitals, and several NYU Langone ambulatory sites run specifically for clinicians without post-graduate NP experience. Candidates with strong RN backgrounds in the ICU, emergency department, or primary care are frequently prioritized. Completing your national board certification before applying and targeting federally qualified health centers, which often have more flexibility for new graduates, gives you a meaningful edge in the New York market.
Where can I find and apply to np jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to np jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings across hospital systems, outpatient practices, and telehealth employers. Find a role that fits and apply directly from the listing.
