Diagnostic Radiologist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a diagnostic radiologist in Texas?
To practice as a diagnostic radiologist in Texas, you must hold a medical license issued by the Texas Medical Board, which requires completion of medical school, an accredited residency in diagnostic radiology, and passing USMLE steps. Most Texas employers also require American Board of Radiology certification or board eligibility. Fellowship training in a subspecialty strengthens candidacy at academic centers and large hospital systems across the state.
How much do diagnostic radiologists make in Texas?
Diagnostic radiologists in Texas earn a median of about $319,320 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,270 for the lowest 10% to over $503,900 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire diagnostic radiologists in Texas?
Employers hiring diagnostic radiologists in Texas right now include UTHealth Houston, Optum, and DESORT STAFFING, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Texas's concentration of large academic health systems, investor-owned hospital networks, and independent radiology practice groups means hiring is distributed across both urban medical centers and growing suburban campuses.
Which Texas cities have the most diagnostic radiologist jobs?
Houston, Texas, and Dallas consistently have the most diagnostic radiologist openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth drive the largest share of demand due to their dense networks of academic medical centers, Level I trauma hospitals, and large private health systems, while San Antonio's military and veterans' health infrastructure adds a steady stream of additional openings.
Are there remote diagnostic radiologist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they represent a smaller share of total openings than in most knowledge-work fields, since radiologists in many settings are expected on-site for procedures, tumor boards, and emergency reads. About 67% of diagnostic radiologist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, with teleradiology roles covering overnight, weekend, and subspecialty overflow reads being the most common fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a diagnostic radiologist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a first attending position directly out of an accredited diagnostic radiology residency program. Large Texas academic systems such as UT Southwestern, UTHealth Houston, and Baylor College of Medicine regularly bring on new attending radiologists, and many employ or affiliate with residents who complete training within their own programs. Candidates without fellowship training can strengthen their candidacy by pursuing ABR board certification promptly, building experience in high-volume community hospital settings, and targeting outpatient imaging groups that hire new graduates alongside more senior staff.
Where can I find and apply to diagnostic radiologist jobs in Texas?
