Clinical Dietitian Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical dietitian in New York?
To work as a clinical dietitian in New York, you must obtain the Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist credential issued by the New York State Education Department. This requires completing an accredited bachelor's or master's degree in dietetics or nutrition, finishing a supervised dietetic internship, and passing the Commission on Dietetic Registration's national registration exam. Most New York hospitals and health systems will not hire without both the RDN credential and active New York state certification.
How much do clinical dietitians make in New York?
Clinical dietitians in New York earn a median of about $82,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,100 for the lowest 10% to over $105,830 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire clinical dietitians in New York?
Employers hiring clinical dietitians in New York right now include Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital, Trinity Health, and SUNY Upstate Medical University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large integrated health systems and academic medical centers account for a significant share of openings, particularly in specialized clinical areas like oncology and renal care.
Which New York cities have the most clinical dietitian jobs?
Albany, Elmwood Ave, and Syracuse consistently post the most clinical dietitian openings in New York. New York City drives the largest share due to its concentration of academic medical centers, major hospital networks, and large long-term care facilities, while Buffalo and Rochester contribute steady demand through regional health systems like Kaleida Health and Rochester Regional Health that serve substantial inpatient populations.
Are there remote clinical dietitian jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 8% of clinical dietitian openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on, bedside nature of most hospital and long-term care roles. The parts of the role most likely to offer remote flexibility are outpatient nutrition counseling, telehealth coaching, and community wellness consulting.
How can I get hired as a clinical dietitian in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-graduate dietetic internship and residency programs run by large New York health systems, including those offered through Northwell Health and NewYork-Presbyterian. Staff dietitian and diet technician roles at long-term care facilities and rehabilitation centers are also common first positions that build the clinical hours employers expect. Completing your New York Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist credential immediately after passing your RDN exam removes the most common barrier hiring managers cite for new graduates.
Where can I find and apply to clinical dietitian jobs in New York?
