Patient Navigator Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a patient navigator in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license specific to patient navigation, so the path runs through education and national certification. Most Texas employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in social work, public health, nursing, or health administration. From there, earning a Certified Patient Navigator credential through the National Consortium of Breast Centers or the Harold P. Freeman Institute strengthens any application significantly. Candidates with a Licensed Master Social Worker credential issued through the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners are especially competitive for roles that include case management duties.
How much do patient navigators make in Texas?
Patient navigators in Texas earn a median of about $47,870 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $37,190 for the lowest 10% to over $83,450 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire patient navigators in Texas?
Employers hiring patient navigators in Texas right now include CHRISTUS Health, University of Texas Medical Branch, and Ensemble Health Partners, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems, cancer centers, and Federally Qualified Health Centers generate the most consistent openings across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most patient navigator jobs?
Tyler, Austin, and Dallas have the most patient navigator openings in Texas. Houston leads because of the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, while Dallas-Fort Worth draws volume from major systems such as Baylor Scott and White and Methodist Health, and San Antonio's openings reflect a large military and VA-connected patient population alongside University Health.
Are there remote patient navigator jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Patient navigation is fundamentally a relationship and coordination role that most Texas employers fill on-site or in the field, so fully remote positions represent a small share of total openings. About 6% of patient navigator openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most of those in telephonic outreach, virtual care coordination, or insurance prior-authorization support roles rather than direct clinical navigation.
How can I get hired as a patient navigator in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to community health worker or patient services representative roles at a Federally Qualified Health Center or large Texas hospital system, then moving laterally once you have documented patient interaction experience. Christus Health, UT Health Austin, and Texas Children's Hospital run new-hire cohort programs in care coordination that do not require prior navigation experience. Completing the community health worker training and certification recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services gives candidates without a clinical background a concrete credential that Texas employers actively value.
Where can I find and apply to patient navigator jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to patient navigator jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated on an ongoing basis. Search the listings for roles that match your experience and specialty area, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
