Psychology Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a psychology in Texas?
To practice as a licensed psychologist in Texas, you must earn a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA-accredited program, complete a supervised internship, and finish a postdoctoral supervised experience. You then apply to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology, and obtain your license before practicing independently. School psychologists in Texas public schools may follow a separate credentialing path through the Texas Education Agency.
Which companies hire psychologys in Texas?
Employers hiring psychologys in Texas right now include Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M University, and LifeStance Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems, state psychiatric facilities, and regional community mental health centers consistently post openings across the state throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most psychology jobs?
Houston, San Antonio, and Austin have the most psychology openings in Texas. Houston's concentration of major medical centers and behavioral health networks drives the largest share of postings, while Dallas and San Antonio have grown significantly due to expanding health systems, VA facilities, and large urban school districts that employ school and counseling psychologists.
Are there remote psychology jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they are limited compared to desk-based fields, since most psychology roles require in-person clinical contact. About 4% of psychology openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting a modest but real telehealth tier. Neuropsychological testing consultation, supervision of associate-level clinicians, and certain administrative or program-director roles are the areas where remote or hybrid arrangements appear most often.
How can I get hired as a psychology in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a funded predoctoral internship at a Texas APA-accredited site, such as those hosted by UT Southwestern, the Texas Medical Center consortium, or the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Healthcare System. Candidates without full licensure can apply for Licensed Specialist in School Psychology positions through Texas school districts, or pursue associate psychologist roles at community mental health centers that sponsor supervision hours. A completed practicum portfolio and demonstrated bilingual ability give applicants a meaningful edge in competitive Texas markets.
