Psychology Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a psychology in New York?
To work as a licensed psychologist in New York you must earn a doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited program, complete a supervised internship, and finish a postdoctoral experience totaling the hours required by the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions. You then pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology and apply for licensure through the Office of the Professions before practicing independently.
Which companies hire psychologys in New York?
Employers hiring psychologys in New York right now include LifeStance Health, Hofstra University, and Lifestance Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large integrated health systems, public hospital networks, and expansive school districts create especially consistent demand for licensed and pre-licensed psychologists year-round.
Which New York cities have the most psychology jobs?
The cities with the most psychology openings in New York are New York, Manhattan, and Bronx. New York City dominates by volume given its density of hospital systems, community mental health agencies, and school districts, while Albany draws demand from state government and academic medical centers and Buffalo's concentration of healthcare networks and university affiliates supports steady regional hiring.
Are there remote psychology jobs in New York?
Yes, more than most clinical fields, because telehealth has expanded significantly for therapy and assessment work. About 33% of psychology openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting ongoing adoption of telepsychology platforms by health systems and private practices. Outpatient therapy, neuropsychological consultation, and employee assistance program roles are the most likely to offer fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a psychology in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a predoctoral internship or postdoctoral fellowship at a New York institution, as these positions are designed for candidates without independent experience. NYC Health + Hospitals, Northwell Health, and New York State's Office of Mental Health all run funded training programs. Lateral entry as a psychometrist, mental health counselor, or case manager at a community mental health center can also build qualifying supervised hours toward licensure.
